Easy MLM? ‘Easy’ meaning requiring no great labor or effort. I don’t believe such a thing exists however before you click away from this post in disgust  and rush off to find the  magic elsewhere, let me say that I do believe there’s an easier way to be successful in MLM and by the end of this post I’ll help you to know exactly what it is you must do to jump-start your business so you can start achieving the success you want.

First you need to understand that you will only ever apply the valuable information I’m going to share with you if you give up chasing “easy MLM” and you’ll only do this when you understand why continuing with this madness is a total waste of your time and money.

Nothing makes me more angry than when I come across people in our industry who proclaim how easy MLM is – what a load of old codswallop! If it was, how come only 3% of those who get involved ever become successful? If it was, how come everybody else hasn’t given up their jobs to have MLM businesses so they can laze around on paradise beach with all the money and time in the world? If it was, how come you’re reading this post?

The sooner you accept that anything worth pursuing that you don’t  already know how to do (like being successful in MLM) is going to involve learning outside your comfort zone, the sooner you’ll allow yourself to face it and get on with it. This process means YOU WILL encounter challenges and only when you have overcome these will you have gathered the experience  required to know how to do whatever it is you have been learning to do. It does not matter whether you want to learn a new language, learn to play a musical instrument, climb Mt Everest or become successful in MLM, the process is the same. Can you do it? Of course you can as long as you don’t expect unrealistic results in an unrealistic time frame. 

Get this guys…… what’s easy for one person is not necessarily easy for another. We are all unique individuals and even if you are capable of learning the skills to do something you will also have to apply these consistently to achieve success. Doing this is another matter all together because applying skills depends on your own unique nature and unfortunately this part often lets us down until we learn how to manage our emotions and unconscious behavior. This is not easy! It takes time, effort and persistence. Remember too that everything is easy when you already know how to do it but that does not mean it’s easy before you know how to do it.

MLM is simple but it’s not easy! What I mean is that learning how to do it is not complicated but applying what you learn is challenging.   So what then will make it easier?

• Treat your business like a business and not a hobby or lottery ticket. Commit time and effort to it.
• Work on yourself by doing as much personal development as you can. Think about aligning yourself with an MLM company that markets personal development. This way you’ll get the personal development you need without necessarily having to spend additional money. This will equip you to deal with the challenges ahead and you’ll also develop yourself into the leader you must become to be successful.
• Use a simple but effective non company specific, Internet based marketing system that you can plug your team into so they can become successful as soon as possible. Using the leveraging power of the Internet is a far easier way to attract leads than using offline strategies. This system must provide training, customizable marketing tools, sorting and management of leads and  a way for you to fund your business even before anybody joins your primary income opportunity.  Using a system like this will mean you won’t run out of leads or money to operate your business

Learning to become successful in business is filled with many opportunities to learn along the way, usually disguised as challenges and failure. From time to time one can feel overwhelmed by these and want to give up. This is precisely when you want to find the strength from wherever you can to stay focused on your dream and goals, knowing that what you are going through is a necessary part of the process and will be well worth the pain. This is also why you have to be absolutely convinced about what it is you want. When this is strong enough you will do whatever it takes. Everybody goes through times when they feel like giving up so be prepared for it, create a strategy you can implement as soon as this feeling raises its head. Here’s a network marketing tip that will not only keep you on track but help you choose  your next step towards the success you want.

Put simply the tip is this: treat becoming successful in your business as a journey. Furthermore, commit to the journey, never give up and from time to time assess where you are so you know what your next step should be.

It’s a bit like taking a road trip from one destination to another.  Every now and then you must stop to assess how far you have traveled, what distance remains and whether you are still on the right road. By doing this you ensure that you get to where you want to be. The same is true for your network marketing journey but how do you know what to look  for when making this assessment?

Recently I came across a teaching by Paul Martinelli, president of Life Success Consulting in which he speaks about using seven levels of awareness to understand where we are in relation to our goals. He suggests our results are a direct reflection of which level we are at. When we know where we are, we know what we need to do to reach the next level and ultimately move ourselves forward until we reach our desired outcome.  While he wasn’t speaking specifically about our industry, his levels form the perfect framework for the journey we find ourselves on so I have used this information and applied it below.

As you read through the following mini descriptions, be totally honest  about where you see yourself and then do what you need to do to move yourself on:

Level 1: Animal

This does not apply because you would not even think about having a business at this level.

Level 2: Mental:

You have a business because others have a business. You have no real understanding of what a business can do for you. You simply have one because you want to fit in, not because it’s what you really want. Your action will be dependent on following the crowd so you will never develop into the leader required. If this is you, go and do something else.

Level 3: Aspiration:

You have a conscious desire to be, do and have more and you believe that a business could provide this for you. However, you don’t take action because you are trapped in fear and you are concerned about what others will say if you fail. You are more in love with the idea of a business than actually taking the action required for success.  If this describes you then you will not be successful because you will never take enough action.  Either go and do something else or overcome your fears and shortcomings through personal development.

Level 4: Individual Expression:

You understand and believe you have the potential to change your life through your business. You are enthusiastic and willing to take action initially and you do.  This is often the true entry point for starting a business. If this describes you, continue taking action by learning how to market your business and how to become a strong person.

Level 5: Discipline:

You will come to be at this level by default if you take enough action at the previous level. As you do so you will be met with obstacles, challenges and failure. This happens very quickly and is usually where people quit.  To survive this you need to find the strength to  follow through with your plans by staying focused regardless of the problems and by staying true to what you want. This is the most challenging level because you need to have enough self belief  that you can achieve what you want before you have had any results. If this describes you then it’s time to seriously become the person you must become  to overcome your challenges. There is only one way – personal development.

Level 6: Experience:

You build up experience as a result of the feedback you get from taking action over time. The only way to get to this level is though applying discipline at the previous level. If this is where you find yourself then you are already experiencing some success. Now apply your experience to your business to modify and fine tune your results so that you can grow your business consistently.

Level 7: Master:

You are aware of your truest potential and you know what you are capable of. You are not controlled by any external factors and even if your business is taken away, you would be able to rebuild it again from scratch in no time at all. There is nothing more for you to do other than continue as you are.

Together with personal development you must also acquire the necessary marketing knowledge and skills. This is what will give you the practical tools to manage your business towards the success you desire. I’m often asked about the exact strategy I recommend for success in the network marketing industry so here it  is. I’m  sure what you are going to read here will not be the first time you have been given this exact advice. I sometimes think  people ask for this again and again hoping that somehow the strategy will change and the all the challenging bits will be left out. It’s just not going to happen so how much longer are you going to take to apply this?

Step 1: Create a vision

What is your number one reason for why you want to be in business as opposed to doing anything else? What will it give you that nothing else can? What’s your dream? This is fundamental to your success. When times are tough you will need this as a point of focus so that you can remind yourself why you are doing what you are, why you need to keep going and why the tough times will be worth it in the end. It’s no different to the trophy an athlete wants to win. Create your vision by describing what you want your life to look like. You can do this by writing it down, drawing, creating a collage of pictures or making a voice recording and then keep it nearby so you can refer to it when you need to.

Step 2: Become the person you must to achieve your goals

This is probably the most challenging step to master because most people either don’t understand how important it is and/or they just prefer to ignore it. The truth of the matter is you need to become a powerful leader and be able to manage your emotions when that little voice of self doubt raises its head as it will. You do this by becoming a student of personal development and working on yourself to become the strong person you must be. There are many ways to go about this – completing self development courses, reading books, attending seminars etc.

Step 3: Understand what your business is about and how to market it

Plain and simply your business must be about you because this is the only point of difference you have compared with everybody else who has also joined your company. To be successful you must learn how to create your own brand and then promote yourself by creating relationships with others to help them achieve their goals. When a trust has been developed then your company opportunity or product may come into play. When you understand this process you will see why you have to work on yourself first. This will require your commitment to learn about attraction marketing.

Step 4: Develop the assets in your business

Your success in the network marketing industry depends on the success of others which means the people in your team are your assets. First you develop yourself and then you help others to develop themselves. As you teach them to successfully duplicate what you are doing, you stand to earn ongoing commissions via everyone in your extended team till the end of time. Find the best, most efficient and effective way to develop your team.

I was just thinking about how fortunate we are to have the Internet as an information tool these days. No doubt many of us just take it for granted. I  must use search engines at least 10 to 20 times a day as I research various topics of interest both personally and for business and what a difference technology makes!

Twenty or more years ago finding the same information would probably have taken me a week or more. I can still remember my school days when conducting research for a school project was a major undertaking to the school or public library.

Scores of us would be seen competing for the same encyclopedia volume, usually the one with the biggest print and most pictures! And then far more time than was necessary was spent lugging it to a work space, guarding it from ‘the enemy’ and simply trying to locate the right information within those cluttered pages. Before one knew it, the library time was over and so was the research since these prized volumes were never permitted to leave their home!  I am amazed we ever finished any assignment to be honest.

I just read a great post today as titled above on the KennyGregg.comPersonal Blog in which Kenny Gregg poses the question of whether a self help product as promoted by  iLearningGlobal is going to stack up against traditional type MLM products like vitamins, cosmetic and weight loss products. It’s a very different product to the norm and as he points out, for the fist time in the industry, by joining this company a person can actually create a business while learning how to be in business. ‘Don’t jump on every new opportunity just for the sake of it.’ is excellent advice but for many it continues to fall on deaf ears as successful and unsuccessful marketers alike scramble to be part of every new ’start up’ in the hope that it will be the next huge money making venture of the time.
