Do You Believe Like Jessica Watson Believed? | Business Personal Development

We can learn a great deal from people who achieve amazing victories outside of  MLM network marketing because what makes them top achievers is what will make you a top successful Internet marketing entrepreneur too and that’s  what this  business personal development post is all about.

Do you even know who Jessica Watson is? Unless you live in Australia you could be forgiven for not not knowing, although this young pioneer did make worldwide headlines this past weekend.

She became the youngest person to sail around the world solo and unassisted.  I don’t know about you but I was certainly not taking on challenges of this proportion when I was 16 years old.

What a truly amazing feat. Let me put this into a little bit of perspective for you.

She has just returned to Sydney after  traveling 23 000 nautical miles on her own which took her 210 days or 7 months if you prefer, of being totally alone out on the big blue sea. All this in a 10.23m yacht called “Ellas’ Pink Lady” .

She spent every one of those days trying to stay on board to achieve her goal. This meant having to to be a sailor, navigator, cook, doctor, engineer, psychologist – the lot! It meant taking on all of these roles despite  having to face skyscraper waves, wild storms, solitude, equipment breakdowns and a host of other associated dangers.

When she left Sydney all those months ago there were many who said she was foolish, that she was too young, inexperienced and wouldn’t make it. She proved every one of the naysayers wrong, coming home to a reception in the harbor that rivaled new years eve celebrations in it’s magnitude.

The Australian prime minster said at her reception that she was a true hero but what was significant for me was her response. She said that she did not see herself as a hero but an ordinary teenager with a dream and the belief to make it come true.

And therein lies the gold. I have heard her say in subsequent interviews that the biggest lesson for her was realizing that anything is possible. What awesome wisdom to have at such a young age. I can only think that she has set herself up to be very successful no matter what she does with her life in the future.

How many of us would like to have more Jessica Watsons in our teams? How many of us are like Jessica Watson?

To be successful in your business you must have a dream, a big enough reason why you want that success but you also need to have the belief to fuel the journey.

It took me a long time to realize that belief is not a conscious phenomenon.  Because you say you believe something, a conscious expression, does not mean you do. Beliefs don’t reside in the conscious but in the sub conscious  and they may be quite different to what you say your beliefs are.

How do you know if you believe something? When you keep at whatever it is you’re doing long enough to achieve your dream. What happens if you don’t stick with it? It’s possible you did not have the beliefs necessary to support your dream.

Beliefs are the cumulative effect of life long programming. As a result of past negative programming we sometimes think and act in ways that are self defeating despite what we try to put in place consciously.

If you are doing all the right things in your business and yet you still don’t seem to be making any headway then it is possible that you have some limiting beliefs standing in your way. Until you know what these are and until you address these beliefs you will continue to find it very difficult to find success.

This is why Jim Rohn said, “You must work more on yourself than your business.”

The way in which you go about this is as unique as you are. One thing is for sure, you will need to to do a lot of self development work and you are far better off finding ways to work with your sub conscious so that you can have a direct impact on any self limiting beliefs you may have.

One of the most effective ways to do this is to work with Neuro linguistic programming techniques. This is what self development guru, Anthony Robins and many other leaders in the field use. I have worked with these techniques myself by way of a tool called The NLP Secret. If you want to know more about this click here – The NLP Secret

  2. Hey Marcus, if you meet this girl in person, send her congratulations from me! She is really amazing, to be so brave at her age, to go for such a big and dangerous adventure!

You are absolutely right about beliefs and dreams and it all comes back to our mindset.. There’s a big difference and a long way from having a desire to a state of mind strong enough to make us do everything to achieve our goal!

    Thank you for this inspiration,
    Milena

    Hi Milena,

I believe everybody can have whatever it is they want in life as long as they know why the want it, want it badly enough and equip themselves with whatever it takes to get it. It’s the same for everybody in business too. Thanks for your great comment.

  4. What a remarkable adventure. When I was 16 yrs old I wasn’t even thinking about doing this sort of thing.

But what I did have was a dream. A dream to be in business for myself and helping other people reach their highest level of success.

Although I failed many times to get here, I never quit. I never threw the towel in.

Perhaps I am little like Jessica, but in a different way.

    Have an awesome day Marcus,

That’s right Jerome. The fact is she started sailing when she was 11 so it took her 5 years to get to the point of that achievement. It does not matter how long it takes to achieve a goal but the fact that we achieve it. Like you I struggled for 6 years in business before I saw any success but I never gave up and that’s what belief is all about and why we have to work on strengthening out beliefs to carry us through.

  5. Hey Marcus

The UK salutes Jessica Watson. I caught a brief snippet of her amazing achievement on the news over the weekend. Simply outstanding.

She is wise before her years which will serve her will in the future.

We can all learn from what she has achieved. She had an dream / idea. Turned it into a goal with a plan and a took action on it with the full belief that she will conquer the seas.

    Great stuff

    Hi Josh,

I know. I don’t think I would last one dark night out at sea in a storm on my own! As you say her dream, passion and belief made it possible for her to achieve what she did and that’s why if we feel the same way about our businesses we can also achieve remarkable things.

  8. Hey Marcus,

What an amazing young lady she is! She faced challenges most people will never face in their lifetime, but she overcame those better than people who face less challenging situations.

You are right, it’s not about what the conscious mind thinks, but what lies deep in our sub-concious mind that utimalty controls our destiny.

    Have a wonderful day!

  10. Hey Marcus,

I am sure we would all love a team full of Jessica Watsons, she seems to have achieved so much at a young age.

As for your Jim Rohn quote: “You must work more on yourself than your business.” – That is a quote that always stuck with me and glad you mentioned this.

  11. Hi Marcus,

That’s a powerful story. Having a 16 year old myself, I can’t help but think of her parents. If my 16 year old wanted to do something like that, what would I do?

She had the dream, they must have backed it. She’s an incredible young woman to be sure. Just goes to show, follow your dreams with 100% belief and faith that you will succeed.

And on the flip side, give others the tools they may need to help them realize their dreams. Having someone that believes in you is empowering.

    Awesome post Marcus!
