Relationships – How To Improve Yours Today

How healthy are your relationships? How important are they? When last did you do a “stock take”? Do you have functional, loving, value adding and empowering relationships with all whom you come into contact with.

Research shows that many people who live long lives have strong social networks consisting of family and friendship circles - people who more than likely add value to their lives and support them positively.

The fact of the matter is we are not meant to live in isolation or be alone. When people adopt a truly reclusive lifestyle they often wither and die, first within and then physically, long before their time.

Human beings are not meant to function without others because life is about the love you give and the love you receive. The next time you feel “down”, add value to someone else’s life in some way, then notice how doing so lifts your spirits. By contributing value to other’s lives we connect with our purpose on this planet.

Consider your relationships -  which ones, past and present are special to you and why? How do you contribute to your relationships?

It’s so easy to take these for granted.  Most of us just assume that our relationships will take care of themselves but they don’t. One way you can take better care of yours, is to treat the important people in your life with value whenever you can. Don’t wait till it’s too late. Today and every day, focus on looking for the good in others and expressing it to them.

Do it as an experiment and see how it makes you feel. With everybody you come into contact today, think about what it is you like about them that is unique and then tell them. Secondly, before you go to bed tonight call someone you have not spoken to for a long time but who you have been meaning to contact. Tell them what you like about them that is unique and how you have missed not being in contact for so long. Then evaluate whether the way you feel about the people in your life is different from normal. I would be surprised if it wasn’t.
Relationships are meant to be alive, exciting and interesting but they take work. You can wait for the other person or you can take the lead and enjoy the benefits that come from doing so. It’s your choice. What are YOU going to do today to celebrate your relationships?
Live the life you love and love the life you live!

  3. Reading your article spontaneously came into my mind a word from ‘Georges Bernanos’, I found more than 30 years ago, which became the slogan for my life:

Um zu Leben, brauche ich menschliche Gesichter um mich.
(To life, I need human faces to me.)

    Georges Bernanos (1888-1948), French author

The question I ask now: do we really have these human faces with us?
To my opinion we are looking for those ‘human faces’ in internet with social network marketing…..
It should be great to have these contacts in our real world.

    This with italian/german greetings

    Hi Ulrike,

I agree with you that we should have human interaction in the real world first. Any social marketing on the Internet should be an extension of that, not a replacement. Thanks for stopping by.

Lovely piece. I endevour to nurture the relationships in my life. I have a small but beautiful friends and family group around me and I treasure them because it took me a long time to find them and them me.
Life doesn’t always turn out quite like we wanted or expected, sometimes it turns out, and the people in it, even better.
