Business Personal Development – Ho Ho Ha Ha Ha All The Way To The Bank

I’ve just spent the last few hours LMHO! For those of you not familiar with this acronym, it means “laughing my head off”.

Why? No particular reason and  WOW did it feel` fantastic!

What was more exciting was the way in which this impacted on my mood and consequently improved my communication with people on the phone soon afterward.

It all started this morning when I watched two videos by Don and Kathleen Thoren. The first was about how laughter improves creativity and health, both of which are essential for our success in business.

The second video consisted of some techniques to use in order to start laughing for no reason at all. Sound bizarre?

Read on…

In this business personal development post I want to encourage you to use the fantastic tool of laughter which you possess and can start using right away. Stay with me on this, participate and you’ll have a tool that can change your mood at will.

When you change your mood, you change your ‘vibe’ or vibration and guess what…. then you open up the channels to receive what you want to manifest.

Also when we “feel good” we’re ‘in the flow’ so to speak and it’s much easier to execute whatever it is we’re doing because we feel confident and motivated. Naturally this leads to greater productivity, increased happiness and a smiling bank balance.

The problem is it’s difficult to feel good all the time especially when we’re having a challenging day or just plain and simply struggling with our business, period.

So how can we turn on the “feel good” switch?

By laughing intentionally and I’m going to show you how.

Do you realize that even at those times when you think you’re feeling fine, your body is more than likely in a state of tension?

Try This…

Tell yourself to relax and feel what happens in your body.

Do it now…..

Did you feel your shoulders drop, perhaps the muscles in your stomach release?

Maybe you felt the muscles around the edges of your mouth and eyes relax or you just generally felt a wave-like sensation moving down through your body as the tension drained out when you gave it permission to do so?

As adults we’re in a constant state of self control because we’ve been told to be responsible and we have interpreted this to mean ‘be serious’.

When we do this we literally constrict physiologically. Not only is this bad for our physical health but it also means we can’t let any creativity in.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to release this state of tension is to have a jolly good laugh. You will no doubt have experienced this after having a hearty laugh at a  joke or after seeing a funny movie.

Laughter has been proven to have a long list of physical health benefits, reduce stress, provide one with euphoric energy and increase communication between both sides of the brain. This encourages more open thoughts and a general feeling of well-being which not only helps us to problem solve more effectively but has also been found to increase productivity.

The problem is we don’t laugh very much because we’re waiting for something to make us laugh.

What we want to do is replace this belief that we can only laugh when there is a cause external to ourselves.

You can laugh whenever you choose when you know how to do so and when you give yourself permission to do so…

Apparently children laugh 300 times a day and adults, 12 – 17 times per day! That pretty much says it all. What’s  the solution?

Laugh more. But how?

Simply by allowing ourselves to become child like and silly.

It’s possible to laugh on cue but you have to learn how to do it and practice regularly. When you start it will feel as if you are faking it but before long it will feel completely natural.

The good news is that your body is not able to discern between fake and real laughter so the benefits remain the same.

Dr. Madan Katria from India was the first to pioneer laughing exercises and today there are laughter clubs and laughter yoga groups right around the world where you can learn how to do this in a group.

I attended a laughter yoga group myself for a few months and enjoyed the benefits so much I trained to be facilitator and now run some of my own groups.

If you don’t fancy laughing with others or you want to experience the benefits of this right now, search for ‘laughter clubs’ or ‘laughter yoga’ on YouTube then watch and participate.

There are heaps of videos to choose from. I suggest spending a good half an hour at least doing this.  You’ll soon pick up what it’s all about and if you don’t end up laughing then you may need to seek some professional help because you may well have some very deep seated issues to be resolved.

Do you want to feel motivated, happy and productive in your business?

Take laughing breaks as often as you need them. I take laughter breaks regularly.

To start you off, have a look at these two videos:

Did you laugh? Do you feel ‘lighter’ and more joyful?

I’d love to hear if reading this post and watching these two videos made a difference to your mood so please leave me your response and I’ll meet you in the comments section.

Please spread the word by sharing this with your followers and let them share in the joy of learning how to laugh for no reason at all. Thank you.

Be Happy!

Yes Vitaliy I didn’t either and I am so taken with this because it is such a fantastic way for people to interrupt their fears especially in business. In fact one of the world’s leading experts in this field comes from Israel. Her name is Nili Dor HaElla. If you search for a video called Introduction to Laughter Yoga and Laughter Therapy on YouTube you will find her work. I might even put one of her videos on the post. Thanks for your comment.

  8. Hi Marcus,

This is a great article. Laughing feels so good!

I spent a lot of years not laughing much at all. My husband and I were going through some rough times several years ago,and I picked up this book for couples. It talked about how important it is to laugh with each other. Making it a point to find things you can both laugh about.

I started putting that into practice in my marriage and WOW what a change it made! Since then I have found laughing easier, and it’s been an amazing life change.

I actually did a post a couple weeks ago about smiling… So effective, in life, love and business.

Thanks for a great laugh, and article!

Very true Stephen… just today I was standing waiting for someone. When I felt impatience creep up, I took out my phone and pretended to answer a call which of course included a lot of laughing. It was interesting to observe how many people around me started to smile when I laughed so loudly. Best of all, I felt a great deal better too!

  12. Hey Marcus

I saw the video on Daily Success Stream and you are very right, laughter is the best way to change your mood, relax and let creativity in.

    Thank you for sharing this.

It is really a shame that adults only laugh 12-17 times a day. Especially when we all love a good ole laugh. We should do it more often.

  13. I was actually sent on a laughter course by my employer. Can you imagine what a bunch of reserved, self conscious Brits thought of the whole exercise.

At any rate, laughter does work even if you start forcing a laugh. You will start to feel in a better mood.

    Thanks for the reminder

    Hi Jayne,

Laughter is definitely one of the best ways to find relief from what can otherwise be quite a serious world.

Having kids around is one of the best ways to laugh a lot. I also find myself laughing around animals a lot. In fact I often find myself laughing at odd things too.

I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as we laugh hey?

Thanks for adding to the discussion here Jayne.
