Why? No particular reason and  WOW did it feel` fantastic! What was more exciting was the way in which this impacted on my mood and consequently improved my communication with people on the phone soon afterward.

It all started this morning when I watched two videos by Don and Kathleen Thoren on Daily Success Stream.  The first was about how laughter improves creativity and health, both of which are essential for our success in business. The second video consisted of some techniques to use in order to start laughing for no reason at all. Sound bizarre? Read on…

In this business personal development post I want to encourage you to use the fantastic tool of laughter which you possess and can start using right away. Stay with me on this, participate and you’ll have a tool that can change your mood at will.

When we “feel good” we’re ‘in the flow’ so to speak and it’s much easier to execute whatever it is we’re doing because we feel confident and motivated. Naturally this leads to greater productivity, increased happiness and a smiling bank balance!

The problem is it’s difficult to feel good all the time especially  when we’re having a  bad day or just plain and simply struggling with our business, period. So how can we turn on the “feel good” switch? By laughing intentionally and I’m going to show you how.

Do you realize that even at those times when you think you’re feeling fine, your body is more than likely in a state of tension?

Try this:

Tell yourself to relax and feel what happens in your body. Do it now…..

Did you feel your shoulders drop, perhaps the muscles in your stomach release? Maybe you felt the muscles around the edges of your mouth and eyes relax or you just generally felt a wave-like sensation moving down through your body as the tension drained out when you gave it permission to do so?

As adults we’re in a constant state of self control because we’ve been told to be responsible and we have interpreted this to mean ‘be serious’.  When we do this we literally constrict physiologically. Not only is this bad for our physical health but it also means we can’t let any creativity in.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to release this state of tension or to change your mood is to have a jolly good laugh. You will no doubt have experienced this after laughing at a  joke or after seeing a funny movie.

Laughter has been proven to have a long list of physical health benefits, reduce stress, provide one with euphoric energy and increase communication between both sides of the brain. This encourages more open thoughts and a general feeling of well-being which not only helps us to problem solve more effectively but has also been found to increase productivity.

The problem is we don’t laugh very much because we’re waiting for something to make us laugh. What we want to do is replace this belief that we can only laugh when there is a cause external to ourselves.

You can laugh whenever you choose

when you know how to do so and

when you give yourself permission

Apparently children laugh 300 times a day and adults, 12 – 17 times per day! That pretty much says it all. What’s  the solution? Laugh more. But how?

Simply by allowing ourselves to become child like and silly. It’s possible to laugh on cue but you have to learn how to do it and practice regularly. When you start it will feel as if you are faking it but before long it will feel completely natural. The good news is that your body is not able to discern between fake and real laughter so the benefits remain the same.

Dr. Madan Katria from India was the first to pioneer laughing exercises and today there are laughter clubs and laughter yoga groups right around the world where you can learn how to do this in a group.

If you don’t fancy laughing with others or you want to experience the benefits of this right now, search for ‘laughter clubs’ or ‘laughter yoga’ on You Tube then watch and participate. There are heaps of videos to choose from. You need to to spend a good half an hour at least doing this.  You’ll soon pick up what it’s all about and if you don’t end up laughing then you may need to seek some professional help because you may well have some very deep seated issues to be resolved.

Do you want to feel motivated, happy and productive in your business? Take laughing breaks as often as you need them. I have decided to start every day like this, take laughter breaks regularly and I have joined  a local laughter yoga group in my area for half an hour’s laughter every week.

For the business owner, goals are what keep us focused and on target. Not only should you be setting goals for your business but also reviewing them frequently. Sometimes it helps to approach the subject in a fresh way. Here’s a way for you to do just this.

I came across “The Ten Goal Method” recently in a  teaching by personal development guru, Brian Tracy. He points out that this method works like magic if you follow the steps below exactly.

Step 1:

On a sheet of paper, write a list of ten goals. They must be written in the following way:  Start the goal with “I” because the goal is yours and personal. You must  own it from the start.

Next add an action verb; words that express an action associated with you.

Write it in the present tense as if you have already achieved it and keep it short, snappy and positive.

Lastly include a due date.

Some examples might be: “I generate ten leads a day by the end of March” and ” I write a blog post three times a week by March 20th.

Step 2:

Now apply the magic wand exercise.  If you could wave a magic wand and have only one goal on your list of ten come true within 24 hours, which would it be? Go back and underline the goal you have chosen.

Step 3:

Write your chosen goal at top of a new sheet of paper including the due date. This will become your major definite purpose.

Underneath write all the actions you can think of to achieve that goal. Next organize the list by sequence and priority and then do something everyday from that list.

Keep the original list of goals somewhere safe but your focus goal must be what you think about all day, every day.  You will be amazed just how successful you can be using this method and there is every chance you will achieve at least eight of the ten goals on your list.  More importantly, when you achieve your focus goal you will know for definite that you can achieve any goal.

The great Confucius said,  “A journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step.” Writing goals is what will help you to know what step to take first.

Brian Tracy also says that if he could only convey one thought that would help you to be more successful, he would tell you to “write down your goals, make plans to achieve them, and work on your plans every single day.”Now you have a simple but effective way to do this. Will you take action?

I’m especially speaking to you if you primarily use the Internet for business and do it full time. If you do there’s every chance you sit for prolonged periods. Well the science is in…. doing so is very bad for you no matter where you’re doing it!

I’m assuming you’re in business to have time and money freedom to enjoy your life, not to spend your millions subsidizing expensive medical treatments  or to spend your free time cooped up in hospital? Here are some good reasons to take action to prevent this from happening.

I can’t take any credit for the zanny definition in my title. It belongs to a certain Lisa Christopher who wrote an article entitled “Beware The Chair” for the Sydney Morning Herald. At first I found the article interesting and then I realized she was speaking about me. Maybe you too?

The article refers to an Australian study published in the journal, Circulation in January. It found that for every hour a person spends sitting in front of the television, their individual risk of death from all causes rose 11 per cent, their risk of death from cardiovascular disease rose 18 per cent and their risk of dying from cancer, 9 per cent.

And just before you think that the dreaded “box” was the culprit, think again, the study emphasized that the research was not about TV watching per se but about sitting, wherever it might be.

Oh and if you thought your three times a week jog or swim was a solution, it isn’t, not because exercise isn’t good for you, it is, however the problem I’m highlighting here is directly related to how much time you spend seated when not exercising.

Basically in developed westernized countries, all we do is shift from chair to chair throughout the day: we sit to have breakfast, sit  in the car, sit in the office and sit on the sofa at home. I bet you’re sitting right now?

Most of us also know from experience that  sitting for too much of the time does not help our waistlines in any way either because it just slows our system right down. According to Dr. James Levine, professor of medicine with the Mayo Clinic in Australia, you increase your metabolic rate between 10 and 20 per cent above resting simply by getting up off your chair without walking anywhere.

I discovered that some corporate companies in Australia are now exploring how they can reduce sitting in the work place without reducing productivity. Initiatives include “stand up meetings” (not for three hour marathon ones I presume!), standing up for the last 10 minutes of very hour and placing treadmills around offices to encourage employees to experiment with walking at slow speeds while reading documents. I wonder whether the occupational health experts like this one?

How much time do YOU spend sitting when working on your business? Whether you believe that the long term effects quoted are true or not, why would you want to take any chances when you can take some preventative action today ?

I’ve come up with the following ways you can break the habit of prolonged sitting:

• Take hourly breaks. Stand up, stretch and walk around. If you’re anything like me you’ll forget, so use this handy online stopwatch.
• Place your phone in a place where you have to stand up to get it.
• Make a rule that every time you’re on the phone (and that should be a lot!) you stand while speaking.
• Use a wireless headset and stand for part of webinars you attend.
• Keep the rubbish bin in a place that requires you to stand up and walk to it.
• Stand up every time you sign up  a new team member.

What I’m going to share with you today is one of my all time favorite mlm tips because it’s at the heart of attraction marketing and mlm lead generation.

Your blog must be the central nervous system of your business and you want new visitors and repeat supporters, lots of them, every day!

There are various ways to achieve this but one of the easiest is to join a tribe. As long as the tribe you join is active you will see results really soon and best of all it won’t cost you a cent.

The ‘rockstar label’ is in itself significant because Brian was indeed a struggling musician before he turned to the Internet. That’s right, he’s an Internet Rockstar!

Is there much of a difference between types of rockstars? The way I see it,  there’s a whole heap of similarities actually. One thing is for sure, being a rockstar in any industry means you have attained a significant level of success, period!

With this comes recognition, attractiveness, financial wealth and yeah dare I say it….. GROUPIES!!

Yes you also want to be associated with rockstars because it makes you feel good to mix with success.  We all do. Others will look at you and think you’re attractive too if you’re on the same red carpet, albeit on the side at the back. Nothing wrong with this. You should be associating with successful leaders, not to trail in their shadow but to connect with them and learn from them so that you can be a rockstar too!

The funny thing is we often only see their success because we only get to know about them when they hit the spotlight.  Take just about anybody who has achieved mega results in life, regardless of the discipline, and  there has been a journey they have had to take to get to that point.

Even people like Susan Boyle who one would hardly think of as your traditional rockstar had to endure a long road to get to where she is today. Her success may appear to have been an overnight phenomenon but  dig a little deeper and you’ll discover she had been preparing her whole life for her transformation to  take place. When she was ready, success came flying in through the door because she attracted the right people and situation into her life at that exact moment.

Of course the  money, glitz and attention is fantastic but I bet what matters a whole lot more to most rockstars,  is the amazing sense of achievement they share.  Brian Fanale is no different.

He started out thinking he wanted to be a doctor but those within the ranks  scared him off with their inside stories. At this stage he  hadn’t quite given up his dream of becoming a professional musician so this was his next stop. In reality this meant being a bartender to subsidize the dream but after only managing to save  a whopping $2000 in 10 months he knew he was going to have to look elsewhere to have the life he wanted.

Enter the network marketing industry and so started a 3 year nightmare that many of us will know well. Rather than earning the thousands he had anticipated, instead he piled up over $20 000 in debt. Sound familiar?

Fortunately not long afterward everything changed for this determined entrepreneur . Within 3 months he became one of the top income earners in his company, had learned how to generate 100+ leads a day and never had to try and convince anyone on anything ever again.  It gets better….. he co-created the largest attraction marketing system on the planet and together they hit the $2 million dollar mark in their first 6 months of  business.

Awesome? Amazing? Phenomenal? you bet…  So what was it that catapulted an ordinary guy to such heights? Simple….when you are finally ready to receive what you need to know, everything will come together very quickly. This is how it happens  for  everybody but the challenging bit is getting yourself to this point. For many it takes a long time. What if there was a way to speed up this process?

Brian Fanale  says there is a way which starts with appreciating your own value and sharing it with others. This is how you become attractive in a business sense. It’s what forms the basis of attraction marketing.  In a nutshell you have to give up needing and wanting and instead focus on giving and sharing.  It may sound easy but it requires a complete change in mindset for most people. There is one truth I have come to know about network marketing without a doubt  and that is, it does not matter what business you’re in or what marketing methods you’re using, you WILL require what some refer to as the right mindset to be successful.

I don’t think the word, “mindset’ comes anywhere close to expressing what’s required. It’s more a case of  sheer mental toughness! Without this you will never make it through the challenges that are a necessary part of the journey to success.

Of course it would be in your best interests to have some mental toughness before you start in business but  chances are you will need to develop a whole lot more anyway. How do you do this? By undertaking to study personal development. Fortunately for me I’m  aligned with a primary income stream whose market is personal development so I’m able to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

But what do you do if you’re in a company that sells nutritional products, travel or anything else actually? It’s pretty simple, you must study personal development elsewhere. I might be daft but doesn’t this sound like a business double cost ? No I’m  not pitching my business to you, just trying to get you to think things through clearly.

The great thing about free enterprise is the word, FREE! If you want to sell pink fluffy pig slippers, all power to you and if you have the mental toughness required and know how to market, there’s every chance you could make a whole lot more money than me too.

Personal development is huge industry  of its own today. You could spend a fortune on your development in this field but what if you can’t afford to? Fortunately there are ‘no’ and ‘low’ cost options. Here are a few ideas to help you:

Type “Free Personal Development” into Google and as of today you’d get back 262,000 results! Surely you’d be able to find some useful material in amongst that lot?

Look out for celebrity promotions. An excellent one is Oprah Winfrey’s  Are you ready to be awakened? featuring the book,  A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. The book will cost you $10 and Oprah provides absolutely free, a workbook and recorded webcasts to help you work through the material.What a bargain!

Some personal development speakers who conduct face to face events often provide a full weekend’s training for free. Of course they sell products at these functions but you don’t have to buy these.  You will definitely get some value from attending a full weekend conference. They can’t spend the whole time in infomercial mode!

Bloggers often offer free personal development bonuses on their sites. Two of my business partners, Jordan Schultz and Vitaliy Dubinin do  just this. Go and take a look.

Hopefully by now you have realized that it’s essential to use an effective generic marketing system outside of what your company offers to market your business. Some of these and most definitely the Attraction Marketing System I use, offer personal development as part of their webinar meetings and training library.

If you prefer face to face personal development programs then check out your local community college. These frequently offer excellent, low cost local courses on various subjects.

Remember this though….  you can learn about the equipment and rules to do with playing tennis as  much as you like but the only way you’ll know if you can play is if you get out there and do it. The same holds for business personal development. You can read as many books as you like and attend one seminar after another but none will provide you with a magic wand. You must get out there and with the help of what you have learned, face your fears and the challenges until you overcome them.

You want people to follow you and work with you and they will only do this when they like you, can learn from you and trust you. How do you get people to this point?

Simply befriend them then be who you are and offer them massive value unconditionally. Over time if the friendship is meant to be, it will unfold naturally because you resonate sufficiently with them. This is not going to be the case for everyone you meet. We connect with some people and not with others which is just a fact of life.

Another fact of life is that some people are far better at making friends than others. Go to any party and you’ll be able to pick out those who do this with ease from those who cling to the walls in terror, desperately willing someone  to come up to them first.

Some give this a label – “I’m just shy.” So fine, you’re shy and if you accept this label then you had better also accept that you’re more than likely going to miss out on many things in life including a successful MLM business, so get rid of the label and learn how not to be shy.

I’m going to share a simple friend making technique with you here which if you will apply and practise can have you making more friends than you will know what to do with. This will work online as well as in person because the principle remains the same, just adapt it to suit your needs.

YOU must make the first move, so  step up and be the leader that you can be. If the thought of this makes you feel faint then it’s only because  it’s outside your comfort zone. This won’t change until YOU change it, so accept that it will feel uncomfortable until you have done it a few times and do it anyway.

Here’s the deal -  people will like you instantly if you can make them feel good about themselves. An effective way to do this is to pay them a compliment but you have to do it in a certain way. What I’m going to share with you I first heard in a presentation by people skills expert,  Alan Pease and I think it’s just brilliant.

There are only three things you can compliment -  someones appearance, behavior or something they own. If you don’t know them at all I suggest you keep your compliments to possessions. Some people find more personal compliments very uncomfortable to receive but you will have to play this one by ear.

• Always use a person’s name in the compliment if you know it.
• Always tell people what you like followed by the reason why. For example: “Jack, that blue shirt really suits you because it compliments your eyes.”
• Always finish with an open ended question that will get them talking.  So, “Jack, that blue shirt really suits you because it compliments your eyes. Tell me, how do you usually select your shirts?” An open question is one that requires a lengthy answer and not just a yes or no.
• Once the person starts talking, listen carefully so you can pick up on what they say to move the conversation forward.  Now you have an “in” and all you have to do is find out what you have in common with them which could strengthen the bond further.

I suggest you try this technique out in a safer environment first, perhaps with some friends for example. Get in the habit of  quickly looking for something positive about people’s appearance, behavior or something they own and then simply frame it as above. Take care not to overdo it in a small group or else you could sound ridiculous.

When you feel more comfortable with this try it with a stranger, perhaps in an elevator or while standing in a queue. Then step it up and try it at bigger gatherings — parties, networking meetings etc.  Make sure you approach the person confidently but don’t come across too strong. You might start by saying, “Excuse me but I’ve just noticed that you have a lovely….”

Whatever you do don’t start pitching your business opportunity the second you have paid the compliment. You will ruin everything you have been trying to establish and you will definitely destroy any chance of trust between you. Personally I only bring up what I do when they ask me. This may be at the same meeting or 6 months down the line. When they do it means they are ready to hear what you have to say.

Good news – this does not have to be very time consuming, however chances are once you get started, like me, you will enjoy it so much that you’ll have to find ways to manage the activity or else you will be spending far too much time on it.

I suggest you give yourself a time limit every day. Just how long will depend entirely on how much time you have available for business activities. I find it a relaxing way to end my business day and usually spend about 20 -30 minutes doing so.
