17 Ways to Rejuvenate Your Energy

  • Sharebar
  • class="st_sharethis" displayText="Share">

We are no different to power batteries in a sense. If we keep doing the same thing without re-charging ourselves, eventually we run ourselves down to standstill.

Part of learning how to feel good is remembering to take time out every day to rejuvenate.   When we do so  we give ourselves new life and energy and feel a whole lot better no matter what it is we’re doing.

The best way to rejuvenate, is do something completely different from you’re currently doing. This will allow you to disconnect from what you’be been preoccupied with and  “just let go” .

It can be something that takes as little as a few minutes or much much longer.

One of my favourite rejuvenation activities is to take a long walk on a Summer’s day. I particularly love walking close to where I live, from Clovelly Beach to Bondi Beach on the east coast of Sydney. It takes about an hour.

What I most love is to feel the sun on my face, smell the sea in the air, hear the crashing of the waves and just observe people having fun.

Today I did this walk with a few friends and we did so I noticed a whole lot of different ways in which people were rejuvenating themselves.

The first five ways below are what I saw as I walked and the rest some additional ways to rejuvenate yourself:

1. Take a long walk.

1. Take a long walk somewhere beautiful...

2. Play a game. It could even be a game of cards!

2. Play a game. It could even be a game of cards or hide and seek.

Lie on the beach. (Don't forget sun protection!)

3. Lie on the beach. (Don't forget sun protection!)

Have lunch with some friends.

4. Have a fun lunch with some friends.

5. Get some exercise.

5. Get some exercise like going for a swim

6.  Have a hearty belly laugh!

7.  Meditate or daydream.

8.  Put on some music and have a good old dance.

9.  B R E A T H E  in and out deeply ten times.

10. Get a good night’s sleep.

11. Take a vacation.

12. Play with your pet.

13. Read a book.

14. Go to the movies.

15. Book a massage.

16. Spend time in your garden.

17. Play with your kids.

What rejuvenates one person does not necessarily another. You are the only one who can rejuvenate yourself so stop whatever you’re doing at some point today and take a break.

Take time regularly to distract yourself because when you do, you have fun, feel good and allow yourself to connect within.

What are you favourite ways to rejuvenate? Can you add some more ideas to the list?

Be Happy!

    Loved the post Marcus!

You are so right about all of us needing to re-charge ourselves so that we can last for the day ahead before we standstill after a few days, due to over-working or exhaustion, or even just leading a monotonous life.

While you are right about saying that each one of us has our own ways to rejuvenating ourselves, or taking that much needed break away from work or doing the routine things- I guess what matters most is that we give ourselves the gift of time to get-away time daily.

Similar to you, I love my morning walks- something that I never miss. However, my walks are through the beautiful fields, small hills in the background, fresh morning breeze, light sun on the face, and wonderful animals like the squirrels, pups, and peacocks peeping around the place.

The real break is when I make that deliberate effort to leave my work and spend time with my kids or sip a cup of coffee with my husband. Or watch a little bit of television. I also love to cook, so that is also a kind of rejuvenating break for me.

And yes, music is always playing on the background, something without which I rarely function (expect when I am working- when I prefer complete silence :) )

I used to dish out time for meditation and yoga, but lately it’s taken a back seat. Need to get back to it now. :)

Thanks for sharing such wonderful way to rejuvenate ourselves- a much needed reminder :)

    Hi Harleena,

I love how you refer to this as giving ourselves the gift of time. Yes isn’t it interesting how we have to be reminded to do this as we so easily become consumed with being busy.

Your walks sound absolutely magnificent Harleena. When I loved in the UK I used to walk a lot on fields and down country lanes and I just loved observing the animals, especially the rabbits and squirrels.

I also love your addition of cooking to the mix. I guess this can be rejuvenating or stressful depending on how one approaches it and the occasion. As with anything when we do it with love and not with any fear of expectation then the love filters through tot he outcome too.

Like you I do listen to music every day although I do seem to spend more of my time in silence simply by default. I find it easier to be in the moment this way.

Thank you for adding to the conversation here Harleena. :)

  2. Marcus, aloha. Thanks for taking me with you on your walk. I feel rejuvenated.

Actually, I have only one to add because you have included mine which are, in no particular order:

    Long walk
    Time with Friends
    Play with my cat
    Read a book

What I would add take a mini appreciation break or even go on a rampage of appreciation. That rejuvenates me and makes me feel so good.

Love, loved, loved the images, Marcus. Wishing you a Wonderful Wednesday. Until next time, aloha. Janet

    Wow Marcus,

What beautiful scenery in that first photo. Now I would LOVE to take a walk along there. I would definitely feel rejuvenated after that one.

So I don’t know if I actually feel rejuvenated after doing these but they are a great break.

I walk for at least 30 min. every day
    Play with Kayla (my dog)
    Definitely laugh every day

I definitely get a good night’s sleep every night. It’s a must for me.

I also write out my afformations each morning and thank God for what I’m grateful for. I’ll do that several times during the day, just because I’m so thankful. It definitely puts a big old smile on my face and a warm feeling in my gut.

Loved these photos Marcus. Thanks for sharing them with us.

    Hope you’re enjoying your week.

    Hi Adrienne,

Thank you. Yes I am blessed indeed to be able to walk in such a beautiful area. :)

I agree with you, we are more likely to feel rejuvenated when we put ourselves into beautiful natural surroundings.

I think all of what you do are excellent ‘rejuvenators’ (is there such a word? There is now… :) ) Adrienne. Thank you for sharing those with us.

I have been away on a meditation retreat for four days so my week has been blissful Adrienne. Hope yours has been a jouyful one too.

    Hi Marcus,

This was a very timely post for me. I’ve been getting busy recently and really could do with doing other things to rejuvenate myself.

I really do love walking and dancing. Going out to eat really helps me unwind too. I’ll be going out for a meal with my sisters on Saturday.

As for a vacation, I have plans to go to Hong Kong in May for training. I’m going to add some extra days to the trip, so it turns into a holiday as well.

I’m really glad to hear you’ve just come back from a meditation retreat. You must be feeling very peaceful. :-) I’m booked on 3 day Vipassana course later on the year.

In the meantime, I’m going to take your advice and get a good night sleep!

    Thanks Marcus.

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for stopping by and letting me know which ones you liked most.

I think having a good massage is one of the fastest and satisfying ways to rejuvenate oneself. It’s one I don’t do too often and yet whenever I do I wonder why I don’t do it more often. :)

I really like to go to the gym or go swimming whenever I need some peace of mind and some energy to feel fresh. I guess exercising in any way is the best way to beat the stress and feel good about your mind and body. Maybe that is why people prefer working out or playing any kind of sports early in the morning. It surely makes me lose all that has been gathering up in my mind and feel good about myself.

  15. I think party will give you stress. So a lunch or outdoor picnic with collegeaus, friends or family will do magic. I mostly go for picnic or lunch with my family on weekend to avoid any stress and thus it helps in rejuvenating my energy. I also believe one should enjoy life with his family to avoid any tension in life

  17. your ideas to rejuvenate are so useful. whenever I tired of doing my work or any other activity, I take a break and some chocolate, its relaxes my mind to a great extent. if I have some more time to rejuvenate I prefer listening to slow and soothing songs and be alone. A good flavour of ice cream or a walk on the beach is also on my list.

We stay in a developed country and it is a really fast country, work is given more significance then any kind of leisure time. Hence rejuvenating would be a good idea and the best option is sitting down with close friends with a bottle of beer, cheers!!
