It does not matter how long you have been in the MLM industry, if you have not yet been over to Betternetworker.com I suggest you get on over there chop chop.
When you do you’ll soon understand why it’s described as the Internet’s #1 social community for home business owners.
Headed up by the very lovable Jason Better pictured on the left, who besides being a character, quite literally, is also an extremely successful network marketer. You will learn a great deal from him especially when it comes to the art of building relationships.
He also has an awesome blog where you will get to interact with a group of people affectionately named by Tommy Depietro as “The Better Bunch”.
So yesterday I was over at Jasons’ as I am most days, reading his daily post, “Why You Should Quit MLM And Watch Avatar (Again) Instead…” . Next thing I knew I was on the soap box, writing a comment that threatened to be longer then the post itself! You’ll have to read the post to find out why.
Jason’s return comment was that what I had written would make a ‘killer blog post’. Too right and why hadn’t I thought of that?
Well no time like the present so here it is….
There’s a huge problem in the network marketing industry and you are either contributing to it or you are part of the solution.
Have you seen Avatar? At least heard about the blockbuster? How easy do you think it was for James Cameron to make this movie?
OK let’s define “easy” as instant success with no obstacles to overcome. If it was easy wouldn’t everybody be out there making “Avatars”?
The same is true of MLM.
There are some who do find it easier than others and some who do brilliantly soon after getting involved but there are many more who don’t. But why not? Just about wherever I look I see and hear that MLM is easy.
Why do a lot of people outside this industry who I speak to regard it as the ‘overnight, instant millions promise that doesn’t deliver’?
Who’s responsible for creating this perception?
Often ‘the industry’ lures newbies in, takes their money and spits them out as perfect little ‘failure agents’ who then go on to spread the bad news wherever they go.
It seems the once bad reputation this industry had in the offline days has simply been replaced with a different bad reputation on the Internet.
It will only change when everybody (yeah right…) inside the industry stops telling everybody on the outside that it’s ‘easy’ just so they can see another name on their downline list and a few autoship dollars in their bank account.
What is easy to understand is why excuses abound. Nobody likes to feel like an idiot, so when they fail the only way to help themselves not feel “bad” is to legitimize their own failure by blaming that which they believe is responsible.
We tell them to stop whining and moaning and take responsibility but how can we expect them to take responsibility for something they never understood in the first place?
Of course it’s possible to be successful in this industry, as it is in any other industry. And fortunately it is simple but it’s not ‘easy’.
Most have to confront and overcome their own self limiting beliefs to begin with and if this was easy we’d all be bottling it and selling it. Then comes the practical skills and knowledge followed by a lot of hard work for as long as it takes to see the success.
We all have a responsibility in the MLM industry to help others understand this or else we are just part of the problem.
>>>> Do you agree or disagree? I’d love to hear what you have to say on this topic so please leave me a comment.
I’d really appreciate it if you would use the “Bookmark & Share” or any of the other buttons available to share this post. Be assured that I will do the same for you. This is an industry where those who help each other benefit the most.
My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

Very good break down of the problem and the cause.
I have said for a while now that some leaders need to stop telling every man / woman and their dog that MLM is easy.
IT AINT – you have to change as a person. Most people hate change!
However as you say Marcus it is simple when done with the right mind-set and a lot of patients.
I see my self us as part of the solution as we tell it as it is and are willing to help others through to the other side.
Great post.

Spot on Dwayne. Learning marketing is not difficult but becoming the person we must to be successful is and most people like you say want to bypass this completely. Thank goodness there are more and more leaders like yourself standing up and standing out Dwayne to genuinely help others to success.

Bravo my Friend,
Your so right there are 2 parts of the problem one is dishonest marketers the other is people with limited beliefs. Put the 2 together and it’s hard for people to see the real beauty here. Enjoyed the content and the passion behind it. Great work.

Hey Marcus , great question ” Who Is responsible for creating this perception” – Well obviously people from the ‘inside’ who take this industry as short term – quick- easy – coins collecting opportunity . Who ever take it that way, he is not a marketer, he is a bluffer.
And the ones from the “outside” who doesn’t have b…s to compete with us!
Thats my answer to it!

I like that Milena – “…he is not a marketer, he is a bluffer.” I am sincerely hoping that everyone who visits this blog is already part of the solution.

Nice Marcus,
I saw your previous “blog post” at Jason Better and I couldn’t agree with you more!
I’ve got to admit that the “instant riches” message is a big turn off for me, as well.
Good thing there are a lot of people like us who are trying to set the record straight and let people know that MLM is a real business that must be worked on.

Marcus My brother that was deep, This is so right, people just don’t know what they are getting into, and they have a right to know.
If we tell our prospects the truth from the beginning, we will be able to manage their expectations and not be apart of the problem like You said.
Well done,

Hey Marcus,
“Overnight success…” I have heard that many times by people outside of the industry. Celebrities get this type of credit as well.
We both know to be a part of the solution is to be the one who goes the extra mile and has integrity. We don’t fluff, we don’t lie, we don’t mislead. Instead we guide with integrity.
Have a great day,

I totally agree with you Marcus 100 o/o I haven’t been in Network marketing but a couple of months but I am learning something new everyday. You did a great teaching Wednesday night. It’s easy for the ones that don’t have any problems doing Network Marketing or that it comes easy for them. Everybody is different, slower, or challenged. Help is hard to find. It would be nice if there was a training program explaining things a little better. If we who understand and know how MLM works helped those who don’t it would be great, but do we take the time to do it. I like your style.

Thanks for the webinar feedback Samuel. I am pleased you found it useful. Yes this industry really only works for those who are prepared to give in service unconditionally. It really is in the giving that we receive back. You may be new to the industry Samuel but you are starting off on a very sound footing. Wishing you every success my friend and be sure to let me know if I can help you with anything.

Hey Marcus,
Glad you took Jason’s comment to heart and created this incredible article.
You’re absolutely right, no one likes to feel like an idiot and that’s exactly what happens when they are under the impression it’s easy and the money just flows after you sign up.
Great content here Marcus!
