There seems to a be a lot of buzz around Facebook advertising on the Internet just lately.
In a nutshell Facebook ads and Google Pay Per Click both fall into the same advertising category. This refers to a form of marketing that is designed to get a direct response which is specific and measurable.
There are some similarities between Google and Facebook advertising but there are just as many differences. I’d like to encourage you to read a post titled “Facebook Ads vs Google PPC” written by my friend Derek Alvarez in which he covers the advantages and disadvantages of each very efficiently.
Should YOU be considering this strategy for MLM lead generation purposes?
Whether you should bother with Facebook advertising or not will depend on your own unique set of circumstances but I wanted to share my views with you about this.
Let me be quite up front here when I say I have personally not done any Facebook advertising yet.
In all likelihood my reluctance will have been colored by an earlier experience. When I first started marketing online I opted for Google PPC as advised by a sponsor. This would have been fine had he known what he was doing. Hmmm mental note to self…
Needless to say I was battered around like a paper kite in a thrashing storm at sea. Then came a certain 12 hour period when I ‘gave’ the ‘mighty G’, $500 for not a single lead. Game over! At this time $500 was my my entire marketing budget for two months so the effect was somewhat severe.
Google’s fault? Absolutely not.
PPC requires that you have a substantial budget to spend especially when you are learning. It also requires that you take time to learn the complexities involved and that you be able to change strategy as quickly as Google changes.
More than this it requires you to be or become a numbers person, someone who enjoys tracking and statistics. I am simply not this way inclined which means I was ignorant and easy bait.
I believe you should consider Facebook advertising on the Internet if:
- you want to venture into this kind of advertising and have less of a budget than required by Google.
- you want to learn aspects of direct response marketing in a more controlled environment.
- you have a very clear idea of who it is you want to target and what the measurable response is you require.
- want to try this type of advertising in a less competitive market than Google.
- you’re not focusing on any other major marketing strategy right now.
- you know someone who is already using Facebook advertising who can show you how to be successful
So how do you feel about Facebook advertising? Maybe you already use it in which case I’d love to hear about your experiences so please leave me a comment.
If you enjoyed this post I’d appreciate it if you could share it on your social networks. Thank you.
My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

Hey Marcus,
When you have a sales funnel, PPC is the way to go. Now, just like you mentioned at the beginning you must have an idea what you want to target. Once you monitor it daily know you’ll have a better understanding what converts. The one thing I’ve learned about PPC you must test & tweak often. Great post my friend.

This is an area I would like to learn more about and take a shot at
it before I start PPC. I really think the opportunity is huge
but really need to learn more about it. But like you mentioned, I have
a few things going right now, so I will learn as much as I can for now.

I feel your pain from Google PPC… that’s what I chose to start with as well, and spent a lot of money. It was an expensive lesson, but it was also the reason I was forced to learn how to market. It was also the reason I was forced to develop myself. Glad it happened.
Excited as heck to learn about the Facebook ads tomorrow night man! Can’t wait.

Hi Marcus,
Great topic choice. Especially since more and more people are deciding if this is something they should think about for their business.
One thing is for sure, we need to all take notice of what Facebook is doing. They are changing how PPC is done all together.
That is a good thing.

Thanks for the overview and comparison Marcus. I know Facebook PPC is hot right now so I will be attending the webinar as well. However, like you, I am hesitant to delve into PPC until I feel I am well rehearsed and educated on the necessary steps. Honestly Goggle PPC is a bit scary for a relatively new internet marketer such as myself. Thanks for the awesome content once again Marcus.

Hey Marcus,
Yeah I hear all the excitement about Facebook PPC right now, like most things it follows trends. Most people get swayed by the new thing in town.
I actually think it is cool and great for targeted leads, but my advice is to anyone interested, do it and stick with it before the next new trend comes in.
Nice post buddy.

Hey Marcus,
By far one of the most powerful ways to market and generate leads. There are very few people that know “how” to properly market through Social Sites. I once heard Jonathan Budd say he used FB 95% of the time to generate leads.
Most people waist a TON of time doing useless things which really sucks!

Hey Marcus!
I ran a couple simple A/B tests using FB ads and I was blown away. In my first week I was paying as high as 90 cents a click and was getting 22% of people opting into my free social media crash course.
Then once I had a few people in my target demographic that “liked” my page I ended up bringing the cost per click down to 23 cents per click and I was converting 39% of clicks to opt-ins which was incredible.
The majority of my stuff is free so now I just need to work on the back end product to monetize the process then I’ll be running them around the clock if that conversion stays put.
All in all, the experienced opened my eyes to a very exciting new world on FB. I highly recommend that everyone just tries it out with $50 to see the power of it.
Looking forward to connecting with you online!
Cheers,
Nick

Marcus,
I have not started my facebook PPC yet, but figured I would share my experience on Google with you. When I first started out on Adword about three years ago, I studied and tried to prepare myself before I got into the game.
When I launched my first campaign, I started generating leads for about $5-8 each and thought I was doing ok. I ended up spending thousands of dollars and had some stretches where I would spend $25 or more and not have a single lead to show for it.
For a while I backed off of my campaigns and overt time started picking up some new knowledge that has helped me tremendously. I’ve recently started focusing more on ppc and in May I have generated 164 leads with google for 69 cents each. In the past that amount of leads would have cost me almost $1,000 and now I’ve done it for a little over $100.
If you have been thinking about getting back into ppc, it is definitely work it to spend some time learning some key strategies to lower your costs.
To your success,
Rich
