You’ve just received an email delivery of fresh MLM leads which hopefully you have not wasted your money buying since the best MLM leads are those you generate yourself.
That’s great but do you know what to do with them ?
Whenever I ask people what they need to know more about, I frequently hear “how to generate more leads”. It’s a fact that we require more leads than we usually expect we will need, however MLM lead generation is only the first step towards success.
Do you connect with your fresh MLM leads?
If you are not prospecting leads, then you may as well stop generating them now because you are just fooling yourself, wasting yours and others time and probably a lot of money too.
The only way we get paid in this industry is if we connect with our leads and convert them to sales. This is otherwise known as mlm recruiting or network marketing prospecting. Personally I prefer the term, “connecting” because that’s exactly what we are doing.
Some people get stuck at this point and I was one of them until I learned how to prepare myself. I had to learn to overcome this barrier. This is how I did it and what you might need to do too.
Preparing yourself for prospecting leads:
- Give this area of your business as much if not more attention than MLM lead generation.
- Ensure that you have the right sub conscious beliefs about yourself and what you have to offer. Remember beliefs are not what you say you believe necessarily but are always reflected in your actions. If you find it almost impossible to speak to leads then there is a very good chance your beliefs are not supporting you and they will have to be overhauled. This may require more conscious personal development or even require some work at a sub conscious level.
- You have to learn and understand the psychology of prospecting. This means understanding how others think and respond and knowing the best way to communicate with them. This is not something you will just know. You will need to learn how to do it. I suggest any Jefferey Combs training or Mike Dillard’s Black Belt Recruiting
- You must have an approach and strategy prepared. This is not a sales pitch or a script but rather knowing how to start and direct a conversation to its logical conclusion. Find someone to role play this with until you are comfortable with your approach.
- Now practice it on every lead you get. Make your goal to practice the strategy not sign someone up and the results will come as you get better at it.

Hi Marcus,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
This is so true, and used to be an issue for me. I’d first think “I need more people to talk to and all my problems will be solved.”
Then I’d panic “What the heck do I SAY to them???”
You’ve got it right when you suggest that we need to prepare ourselves for this. Role playing helps a lot. Find someone who is willing, no matter how silly you feel role playing with them. If they are willing, take them up on it and DO IT.
You’re right on track with your suggestions.
Cheers!

Hi there Susanna,
Thanks my weekend was awesome and I hope yours was too.
I think to many people focus too much on lead generation which is useless unless you know what to do with your leads. Thanks for your great comment.

Hey Marcus,
Well done! This is one of the mistakes people make and they are losing partners and money. It’s important to connect with them ASAP to build a relationship. The program you have here is a great place to start. So individuals know what to say and start the process of connecting.

Marcus,
It has been said that if you talk to your prospects on the phone, you have more than double the chance that they will join your team than if you just communicate through email. Do you call each lead that you generate?

Seth that is what they say. I haven’t always called all of my leads but I soon realized that I was doing myself and my business a disservice. If they give me a phone number I do call. If I can’t get hold of them I will call a second time but not usually more than that.

Hey Marcus
Prospecting is the hidden secret. People generally come online because of their fear of talking to people. This then leads to not connecting with their leads as they have not dealt with their fear.
The difference here is obviously that if you have their contact details they want you to contact them. Completely different to the dreaded cold calling.
Once they have this in their head, your p;points will serve them well.
Happy Monday

Yeah it is all about mindset. You can’t hind behind your computer for the whole process, it just doesn’t work.

Hi Marcus,
Your 2nd tip strikes a chord with me. For the longest time I thought that I believed in myself and my opportunity but I didn’t *feel* it. The difference between thinking something and feeling something is immense; action is what separates the 2.
Until I set about reprogramming my subconscious mind I sent off a “stay away” vibe, or at least I didn’t maintain an attractive vibe on a subconscious level. This is why personal development is a critical practice for any network marketer who aims to be successful. When deeper levels of blockages are cleared it becomes progressively easier to connect with prospects and close deals.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful insight and the links!

G’dday Ryan,
It took me a long time to get what you are speaking about. The kind of personal development I had to experience went far beyond reading books, listening to successful people and repeating affirmations but as long as we work on our mindset we will find the solution we need.
You have described it the best way there – “feeling” it rather than thinking it!
~Marcus

Hey Marcus,
Another tip is positioning yourself in a way that you feel the most confident. For example, since I was a flight attendant, I got used to standing while talking on the public address system giving the safety announcement. To this day, I’m still more comfortable standing and talking to someone than sitting. It makes a difference.
We are are own worst critic so practicing in a mirror helps too if a friend is not available.
Great points in your post!
Have an awesome day!

Hey Marcus,
What a great way for others to follow in connecting with your fresh leads. I do see a lot of people who generate or buys leads where they never connect with them.
It’s a waste. The best thing anyone can ever do with a lead is to connect with them, then follow your steps.
After all, practice makes perfect.

Awesome post Marcus,
I liked how you explain the belief system and how that can affect your prospecting. I totally agree, if you’re not doing anything with your leads after you generate them, (at least adding value and communicating with them) – you’re not in business.
Thanks for this great post
Have a good one

Hey Marcus I love the post! I agree with everything you are saying, for I noticed everything about this business is all physiological and mental.
I noticed when it comes to recruiting or sponsoring new reps it is best to have posture and belief in yourself to the point you know that you have something great to offer people. And if anyone is lucky you might just throw them a bone a show them an opportunity that can change their lives positively (this is the ideal mindset of a success network marketer).

G’dday Reggie,
Welcome! I like the way you put that. The one thing I do know about this business is that if you don’t have the right mindset it wouldn’t matter if Jonathan Budd or Mike Dillard was your best friend you still wouldn’t be successful.

Marcus this is another great post. I have to agree with reason 2 the strongest if our posture isn’t there people can sense it. You can reek with insecurity when you don’t believe in the value you have to offer.

Marcus,
It never surprise me the value you give on each and every post you publish. Again another beauty, one of my personal favorite Dillard
courses is Black Belt. I must of listened to it 20 times on my iPod.
One strategy which has been very effective is if I don’t get a phone number of I can not contact the prospect, I use social networking. I find the lead usually on Facebook and send a nice message looking to connect and offer any help they may need. I do not contact them again unless they contact me and have about a 80%+ success rate with connecting.
Have a great night!!

Great post Marcus, you are so very right. Why bother to get leads if you plan not to make any attempt to prospect them and convert them into sales. This is the main object after building a list and it is essential to the profitability of your business.

Marcus –
Thank you for pointing this out! We all want tons of leads, right? But, then we need to follow-up with them. It is critical and I don’t always do it, but this should be a part of our daily routines. Set aside 1/2 hour – 1 hour/day to follow up with your leads!
This is critical for your success!
Thanks for stating this! (I need to hear it too!)

Hi Marcus,
Great tips!
I look at my leads as customers. If they provide a phone number I contact them to ask them how I can help them and to get to know them better. Calling is not always comfortable…but it is much more effective than an e-mail.
Have a great week!

Marcus,
I’ve got to say that I love tip 5… practice on your leads… Make it your goal to practice prospecting rather than making the sale. This will give you more freedom of what you’re willing to say what you feel. You’ll become a closer much faster with this mindset.
