If you’ve been around for even a short time I’m sure you have probably heard that if you want a successful Internet marketing business then attraction marketing is the way to go.
In fact ‘attraction marketing’ has pretty much reached ‘buzz term’ status these days. Now you would think that those who throw these words around in conversation so enthusiastically would understand the principles on which the term is based. Not always so. All too often what I hear and the action I observe are in total conflict.
In thinking about this I was reminded of the cafe I almost bought as a business a long time ago. Thank goodness I didn’t, it would have been a total disaster, mainly because it would have been the wrong kind of business for me. However the story about how this came about is worth sharing.
I first noticed “Just Desert” on a balmy summer evening, walking home with some friends after dinner. I’m not sure if it was the bluesy tones of the saxophone player that lured us in like the pied piper of Hamlin or the raucous laughter that seemed to ooze with fun out of every open crack to the outside world.
The owner Annie made us feel as if we were her long last friends. When she heard we were “Just Desert virgins” she insisted we have her speciality, Pecan Nut Tart and home made ice cream, on the house. Admittedly it was a smaller then normal serving but I can tell you it was like nothing I had ever tasted before.
In fact I dreamed of that tart for two nights in a row and on the third I was back for more. Many times over. Except now I was paying for the tart as well as the desert wine and coffee to go with it.
In the months that followed, this cafe was to become my ‘local’. I got on famously with Annie, the rest of her staff, the band and all the others who called it their local.
Often I would see her in the neighborhood and she would insist I come back for a chat and try out her new double chocolate brownies, home made fudge ice cream or whatever else she had conjured up on that day. I also learned a lot from her about desert wines since she had gown up on a wine farm.
Over the next two years or so I spent a lot of money in there but it was not uncommon for her to refuse payment from time to time too.
I got to meet her family and she mine. We shared in each other’s highs and lows and I must have introduced well over 1000 people to her cafe over the years.
The day she sat me down and told me she was looking for a business partner and wanted it to be me came as no surprise. We connected so well in every way. I turned her down because it was the right decision for her business and me. I was simply not looking to be involved in that kind of business. Some months later she decided to sell and retire to France. We are still friends to this day.
If you understand attraction marketing then you will have been able to identify the principles and process in the story I have just relayed. Attraction marketing is not new or a mystery. It’s simple and it works and it can work for you too so that you can have a successful Internet marketing business.
I’d love to hear what you have to say on this topic so please leave me a comment.

It’s amazing how much a little story can convey, isn’t it?
I love this kind of stuff, Marcus — great example of how attraction marketing works, my friend!

You are right Derek and it’s a story that in it’s time had no label like “attraction marketing” because this is a timeless principle that just is and always will be. All we need to do is tune into it. Thanks for the great comment Derek.

Yes Marcus, many speak of employing attraction marketing but that’s where it stops: speaking of it.
When *practicing* this concept like-minded people flow to you rather effortlessly. This does not mean you don’t have to work; it simply means that you’ll have a love affair with your business and this passion is picked up and responded to by like-minded people. Call it the law of attraction or whatever you want to call it. The point is it works if you have a love affair with what you do for a living. People feel it; it’s not something that you can perceive with the physical senses. It’s just a magnetic force which people who are really good at what they do exude.
By the feel of your blog I can see that network marketing is one of the reasons why you were placed on this earth. You definitely made the right choice

Hi Ryan,
As you know I love your responses because I can sense how genuine you are so your comment means a great deal to me – thank you.
I love this line, “The point is it works if you have a love affair with what you do for a living.”. This is the crux of the matter. You have to love and be in love with what you are doing so that you can feel good more of the time than not and by doing this you attract everything you require quite effortlessly as you point out.

Marcus,
Many, many times I hear similar example of how attraction marketing works it way around and people don’t even notice it.
Think of it this way, you brought in 1000s of people, so you were a network marketer from the beginning. Your commission was the times Annie refused your money and that almost lead to your purchase.
Nice story, I like hearing about the many examples of attraction marketing.

I like the way you put that Tommy. Yes and even though I didn’t opt in for the high ticket item in the end, I could have if I had wanted to. The point being that both Annie and I grew a great deal over time by knowing each other. Not everybody will opt to work with you in your primary but that does not mean they can’t play an extremely important role in your business, that is if you understand that your business is about more than just your network marketing opportunity. Great comment, thanks.

Really well said Marcus.
This type of experience is exactly what we are now calling “attraction marketing”. You got treated the right way and they made it a comfortable everlasting experience. What better thing can you ask for?
And because of that, I know want to go.
By the way, your writing style is fantastic.

Hi Marcus,
thanks for sharing this great story because it illustrates very well the idea of attraction marketing and networking. And if you love the product you need not to make a business around this product. Have a blessed day and take care.

Thanks Oliver. Yes sometimes we connect with others for different reasons than what we expect. This is why I find it so odd that the majority of people who use Facebook for instance forget about one as soon as one is not interested in their opportunity but what about all the other reasons why you may need to meet them – mentoring, joint ventures, etc.

Marcus,
Your story is a great one that not only shows the principles of attraction, it also demonstrates another lesson. You can be passionate about a business, but don’t let those emotions drive your reason for being in the business. It is obvious that you loved the place. Some people would have translated that emotion into a buy into the business. You recognized that no matter how strong your feelings were, it was not the right kind of business *for you.*
I have loved the network marketing business idea and model for years. Unfortunately, most of my personal friends don’t have a clue and don’t care, and so the “traditional” methods of network marketing have failed me. That’s why attraction marketing is so powerful. The seed only takes root in fertile ground.

Hi Robert,
Welcome to my blog. Thank you that is a very good point that you made there. We can’t afford to let our ego’s get in the way of our success. We have to remain in the moment so we can follow our true purpose at all times.
Attraction marketing is what saved me from much the same outcome you have experienced Robert. Thanks for the great comment and visit.

Marcus,
If that isn’t attraction marketing in real life… This concept is not a new one, and yet most people get overly confused by it. It is easy to over-complicate the process, which is why it’s necessary to take a deep breath and start one brick at a time.
I like how you and she became great friends and not just you as her customer. That’s the relationship holding that bond together and giving you the desire to go back to her time and again and spend your money and time with her.
Great stuff.

Too right Jordan, it’s been around forever but it didn’t have a name like that. It is what we are meant to do on this earth and it’s easy when we just do it naturally and let it take it’s own time.

Sometimes we tend to take things for granted Marcus. Humans are such unique creatures. We meet people, they do something nice for us, we get to like them. We meet them again and we learn from each other, we meet each others friends and have fun with each other. Our children click with each other….and so on it goes….
We are so natural at what we do. Building relationships.
I luv your post Marcus – such a natural process to attraction marketing.
Looking forward to your next post Marcus!

Awesome story, and it made me want a good dessert with some dessert wine to go with it!

Loved it your writing was like that in a novel great descriptions and narration. You simply provided so much value to her and got to really know her that the 1st person she thought of going into business in was you. That is a great analogy of how it should really work. The trust is there and decision for the prospect is automatic. Loved it.
