Setting up a network marketing online business is no different to setting up any  kind of business. Why then do so many choose a route that is destined to fail? Let me show you what I mean -

Learning from my Grandfather…

When I was 16, my grandfather announced he was going to open a “Fine Furnishings” store. The next weeks and months were spent defining exactly what his store would look like, the market to be targeted, the right name for the store, what style the store would represent and how this would be communicated. In short, the store brand was defined so that it would be unique and consequently stand out from all other similar stores.

While the location of the store was carefully researched and chosen, work started on resourcing the shop fittings and a company to take care of the physical builds. Meanwhile my grandfather worked on marketing plans, deciding how he was going to promote his store. Of course back then this was mostly via direct response advertising but he still had to research the different advertising mediums available and their costs. He also had to learn the skill of copy-writing because there was no budget for an agency to handle this.

He put systems into place to ensure the smooth running of the store which included customer service, inventory and accounting processes. At the same time he went on buying trips from time to time so that he could find the products he wanted to sell in his store. Some of these were small, others bigger and a lot more expensive. Those selected were ordered and stored in preparation for the grand opening.

Eventually the day arrived when he could open the store doors and showcase the amazing variety of furnishings he had sourced from all over the world. He went on to become hugely successful, opening three more stores in time.

Can you see the logical process he followed?

Established brand  → Learned how to market and systematize   → Added the products and opened for business

Enter the network marketing online professional…..

who often does this all back to front. They find an opportunity which they love so they make this the focal point of their business. The problem is thousands of others are doing the exact same thing. They do their level best to sell their company and product and they can’t understand why nobody is interested.

Someone tells them that they need to have a unique online presence so they do their best to create a personal brand to fit in with what they are doing but it’s not that easy. Why? They are impatient because they must make money and soon.

This is not going to happen however because they still don’t know how to market themselves. The reason being that network marketing companies are self serving and only teach people to market their opportunity and products. It is a fact that the majority of people who market in this way are never successful.

Unfortunately the emotional hype that got them into the opportunity wears off, they blame everyone and everything for their failure and drop out.

A Different way?

The truth of the matter is that there is a way to emulate this offline process to help yourself to success online too. This is exactly how I teach people to become successful online. Follow these steps in this order.

Step 1 - Make your business about you first. Start with creating your brand so that you can stand out from the masses online. A brand is personal and values driven and will influence your every business decision  going forward.  It’s not complicated because all you must do is define what makes you different to anybody else and represent this online by way of a blog and social media presence. This is your equivalent to having a store.

Step 2 - Learn how to market and how to set up your business systems. Fortunately there are very effective generic systems that have been developed to help you do this.  You want a system that will teach you marketing and equip you with the tools to market.

While you’re learning these skills  you’ll be taught how to pass these on to others who have come on board after you and who will be hungry for information. This helps you to build relationships with people who will want to be associated with you. You will become the authority to others and they will be attracted to you. This is what is known as attraction marketing.

Step 3 - Now you are ready to start looking around for a network marketing company which is the big ticket in your income stream portfolio. Because you have set yourself up for success, now it’s simply a matter of applying what you have learned on a consistent basis and you will be as successful as you want to be. How long will this process take? As quickly as you put in the effort required to learn what you must. Does it really matter how long it takes when you understand that by doing this you are investing in yourself and your future success rather than just hoping things will work out?
