Research Profitable Keywords Before or After You Write Your Network Marketing Article?

Do you write your network marketing article first and then look for profitable keywords or vice versa?

I guess it depends on who you’re writing your article for. If it’s for people using a search engine to find information then I believe you must start with keywords first.

This is a topic that usually attracts a variety of responses based on personal experience.

Reasons for doing keyword research before writing your network marketing article

If you do keyword research before you start writing, you will discover the actual profitable keywords your potential readers are using instead of guessing which search terms will work best for your topic.

Using the actual keywords means you have a better chance of writing a business marketing article that people are searching for rather than writing what you want to write and then trying to make the keywords fit what you’ve written.

When the keyword phrases you’ve targeted match the actual search terms, your article is far more likely to be read.

Reasons for doing keyword research after writing your network marketing article

There are some that argue that you should write first and then look for profitable keywords so that your creativity is not hampered and the article flows more.

In my experience when you try and fit key words to a business marketing article already written, the flow often ends up being worse. More to the point your article may end up having nothing to do with why people are searching for those terms so what’s the point?

‘Are you writing for people or search engines?’ is a question I hear thrown around quite a bit.

What an odd choice. We should be writing for both which is what requires the skill. Writing for either one of these would be a breeze but defeat the main purpose why we write content; to help people looking for it.

In my opinion keyword research is the same as any other research you do before writing a network marketing article and should be done first.

Keywords and keyword optimization is an essential element for effective web writing and should not be an after thought. Find the best keywords first and you will save yourself from having to do a lot of rewriting, plus which your network marketing article will be far more readable.

So do you agree or disagree with me. I welcome your comments either way.

My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

  2. Hey Marcus,

Wow, are you reading my mind??? LOL I have been thinking about this and realizing that I need to do a lot more keyword research BEFORE putting together my content.

Thanks for putting this out there.

Great that it confirmed your thoughts Susanna!! :) I have to say that spending more time on keyword research is what will make your great articles found by more people and that’s what we want!

  3. Hi Marcus,

I’ve used both approaches but feel that it makes the most sense to do keyword research before writing the article. 9 times out of 10 trying to add keywords after makes my articles tend to sound awkward.

As you said it can be a challenge to write with both aspects in mind but that’s why people who perfect this skill make the big bucks :)

    Thanks for sharing,

  4. Hey Marcus,

What I do is I know what I want to write about then I target my keywords. After I have both of these two, then I write the article. I didn’t always do this.

Now, I must say keywords are important, but I do make sure it is something that my target market would like to read about.

Really nice job on this post…appreciate you sharing this.

    Hi Jerome,

You approach makes perfect sense. You are right if we don’t write for our target market there is not much point really. Thanks for the great feedback.

  5. Hey Marcus,

I would have to agree on that, keyword research should be done up front to dictate how you will angle the article.

Obviously the article should still be quality regardless of this.

    Thanks for this.

  7. Hey Marcus,

I do my target keyword research first. Then I write my article using the keywords. However, I write the article with the reader in mind. I don’t write specifically for the search engines. I do want to provide high quality information not stuffed with a bunch of keywords.

  8. Hey Marcus,

Really, write your article first without knowing your targeted keywords!?! People actually do that!?! LOL.
Being the diva side of COA, keywords most certainly come first!

    Great article!

Yes can you believe it? I just never understand that kind of advice. I mean do you want people reading your article that need the information or friends to say you wrote a nice article??

Thanks for the comment and you have a great week too. :)

  11. Good points Marcus.

I agree that you should do keyword research first to identify potential profitable keywords. But this is where I differ slightly.

I then write the article about a subject that the keyword applies to without consciously trying to use the keyword. I try to write naturally. Then I will go back and try to apply the keyword where it makes sense.

    Marcus Baker Reply:

    Hi Peter,

That makes sense. I guess what you want to do is make sure that when people use the keywords you have selected, that when they type them in they are looking for what you are giving them otherwise there is no match.

  13. Hey Marcus great post! I would have to agree that for my web based writing, keyword research is important, and that if using keywords naturally fit the audience and context, then I will use keywords. I try to be careful not to focus on the search engines to much because the article won’t come across as desired. I try to work towards a balance.

    Thanks for sharing this info!

  14. I am little bit confused…. I don’t think that it really does matter whether you choose the keyword before or after your writing. But main thing is that you have to spend some time to find out your targeted keyword to less your competition.

    Marcus Baker Reply:

    Hello,

I guess the issue is whether you choose keywords and write around those or write first and then find keywords to fit what you have written. It does not really matter if you can make either of these approaches work as long as you get the result you want.

However some people find they can achieve a more accurate effect choosing one approach over the other.
