Two Article Marketing Tips

Not everybody is a writer or likes writing but if you do, article marketing is a fantastic way to generate free leads. It takes a bit of time to take off and you need to be putting new articles out there regularly, a bit like blogging.

As with all things there is a learning curve to experience so don’t wait till you think you know everything just start and learn as you go.

I had written about 20 articles before I noticed that although I had a lot of article reads, my link click through rate was not fantastic. I wanted this to be better. After all as much as I love writing, the way I make money is ultimately if prospects are directed to one of my income streams in some way.

I realized where my mistake lay. When you write an article, you have a resource box at the bottom of your article; this is where you put your information and links so that readers can find out more about whatever your article relates to.

The problem with mine, was that it was too long and also I was separating the resource box from the rest of my article which probably meant a fair number of readers never even saw the resource box!

What’s so great about Internet marketing is that more than likely someone else is doing whatever you want to do better than you are and is willing to share their knowledge. Jeff Herring is such an expert. When you want to know how to truly be successful at article marketing, he is one such ‘go to’ person.

I learned the following two tips from Jeff regarding resource boxes and want to share them with you too:

Tip 1:

Make your article flow into your resource box. You do this by not having a definite conclusion at the end of your article and by not ending the article with your name and copyright symbol.

All this does is tell the reader the article is finished and consequently many people don’t read further.

It’s not that they mean not to read further, just that the Internet is geared to fast reading and unless you do what you can to maximize the reader’s attention, there is always something else to divert them.

Rather lead into your resource box as if it is the last paragraph. You can add your name and any secondary links after you have provided the link you want them to click on.

Tip 2:

Don’t forget to provide an active link where the reader can get more information. Ideally you want them to opt in for more information as this way you are building your list and once you have their details you can market to them for the rest of time.

Applying the above tips has made all the difference to my click through rates. If you want to see what I mean, have a look at the following article of mine, Eight Things to Check When You Feel Totally Overwhelmed and Confused and take note of how I have structured the resource box.

Do you use article marketing? What other tips do you have to share?

Be Happy!

    Hi David,

I agree with you. Quality is vitally important. Quality articles stand out easily because unfortunately there is more rubbish out there than anything else.

To catch people’s attention one must work on gripping titles and first paragraphs to draw readers in.
