One of the most common MLM Blogging Tips I am asked about is how to improve one’s blog SEO. On closer inspection I often find there is nothing to optimize.
Using the analogy of car I regard SEO as things like adding oil and getting an engine tune up. I am sure you would agree with me that these would all be somewhat pointless if you had no engine in your car.
When it comes to your blog, your engine refers to the keywords you have chosen for your blog. These are what will drive the content on your blog. If you have not chosen the right keywords then the fact of the matter is that you are wasting your time with any SEO.
You have to strategically choose the best keywords for your niche and this means observing four golden rules. The problem is 99% of people miss one or more of these and you need ALL of them to work in your favor.
Rule 1
The keywords have got to be laser relevant for the content on your site. This is is how you set yourself up for success when it comes to attracting targeted traffic.
Rule 2
Your keywords must be getting a significant amount of traffic. This means 80 to 100 searches a day. Did you know that over 90% of keywords do not generate significant traffic?
Rule 3
You want keywords with as much traffic as possible AND as little competition as possible. In my opinion this is the most important rule and the one that is most often ignored. It’s no wonder so many sites fail.
Rule 4
If you are interested in making money you must use profitable keywords that have a commercial viability. This ensures that the traffic you attract is ready to spend money.
If you are serious about understanding how to make the above rules work in your favor in the easiest way then I want to suggest that you use a keyword generator tool called Market Samurai. It’s not only because this is the hottest keyword tool around but you will not find better training videos dealing with how to choose keywords effectively for your blog anywhere else.
I use free keyword tools and a couple of paid tools and Market Samurai is the best by far. The great news is that you can try the full tool for free before you spend a cent. And even better is that if for some reason you decide you don’t want to buy the full version after your free trial is over then you also get to keep the keyword generator part for free.
Yes you can continue to use free tools but if you want to be ahead of the pack and be successful then you will also want razor sharp accuracy and lightening speed analysis features to help you with keyword research. This is fundamental to every bit of marketing you will ever undertake on the Internet.
Think of it like this, if you wanted to dig a massive hole and you had the choice between a little hand shovel and powerful earth grader, would you choose?
Please leave your answers and comments below and I’d really appreciate it if you could share this post with your followers on Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere. Thank you.
My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

Hi Marcus,
I like your powerful analogy, the earth grader is where it’s at.
Realizing your 4th rule was a turning point for me. See what people are paying money for, that’s where the cash is when it comes to keywords. All else can be in order yet if you miss the profitable keywords it is tougher for you to make a profit.
Great insight as always,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I think the main two rules that people miss is not really understanding how the level of competition works and then choosing keywords that have no buying power as you point out.

Hey Peter,
I think you also use Microniche Finder as I do but I seem to be using Market Samurai more and more these days. I think it’s an easier and more flexible tool and the training is brilliant which I can hardly ever say about keyword training.

Hi Marcus,
It all seems to come down to keywords, use the right ones and you soar, the wrong ones and it’s crash and burn time.
All of your SEO and keyword tips that your share here have me wondering,
When’s your product coming out?
And if you’re not creating one, why not?

Hi Mike,
Couldn’t agree more with you and I speak from hard experience. When I first started I wrote 100 articles without first really understanding keywords and as you can imagine these have have never and will never reach their full potential – understandable now though.
A proper understanding of keywords is essential for any kind of marketing on the Internet.
Ha ha… yes I am working on the product right now Mike which is why I have been a bit light on blog posts this week. Stay tuned…. And thanks for the awesome support as always.

Hi Sherman,
In my opinion it is the training that goes with this free tool that is just invaluable. Hope you find this too.

This is a great analogy to a car engine.
I too am finding that if you don’t have these laser target rules in place, it’s pretty difficult to satisfy the SEO gods and driving that qualified traffic to your site.
Have a great day Marcus,

Hi Jerome,
Thanks for stopping by. You have to have something to optimize or else there’s no point and that’s a mistake a lot of people make when they start. Market Samurai makes this very easy for beginners and those who need to re-work their blogs.
