Take yourself back to the gold rush of yesteryear and think about how miners would have searched for gold and you’ll have all the prospecting tips you” ever need to be successful at mlm lead generation on Facebook too.
Would miners have just started digging in any old place?
It’s highly unlikely since this would have been a total waste of time.
They would have targeted areas known to have gold deposits for starters and no doubt there would have been a process to uncover this.
Diggers would have worked carefully, systematically and consistently to chip away at the rock in order to find what they were looking for.
This would have been followed by a great deal of sorting. Perhaps in amongst all the mined rock, they would have found a small amount of gold which if they were fortunate enough may have been of a high enough grade to be valuable.
There were no short cuts. The same is true for prospecting one on one with anybody, anywhere, including on Facebook.
What kind of Facebook miner are you?
I mostly come across three types: those who have no clue, those who have some clue and a small minority who get it.
The first group have no idea where the gold is so they just dig around frantically anywhere.
These are the people who can’t resist spamming you about how their opportunity is exactly what you need to solve your every problem.
How would they know since they know nothing about you?
The second group have half got it.
They connect with you on a personal level, well at least for a couple of messages anyway.
Then comes a message which is usually polite and without links. It provides an explanation about how whatever it is they are involved with has changed their life and why you will definitely benefit from knowing about it.
The message usually ends with them asking your permission to move to the next step. The problem is they still have no idea about whether this is something you need.
Then there are those who know how to mine for gold on Facebook and this is what they do:
- Define their target niche in terms of problems people might have and for which they may have a solution.
- Identify people in their niche.
- Connect with people in their niche personally.
- Attempt to develop a relationship and evaluate if there is a problem to be solved. This is done over time.
- If there is a problem then they know they have found some possible gold. Now the careful process of mining can begin. How valuable it is will all depend on the find and the skill of the problem solver.
When you learn how to develop effective relationships on Facebook, you’ll have a great list building tool at your disposal to grow your network marketing Internet business in a very real way.
As usual I love reading your responses and comments and thank you for sharing this post with your followers.
Be Happy!

PS: The first stop for all my new business partners is very specific “Facebook mining training” via the Marketing Survival Skills training system. It works because it’s simple, ridiculously inexpensive, duplicates like a dream. More importantly nobody has to learn any complex Internet marketing skills before they get to taste success.

Hi Marcus,
I love the analogy of mining for gold. I spent a few years growing up in a small town that was part of the gold rush. Lots of gold mining history there.
You’re right, and it’s so annoying when people don’t know where or how to look for ‘gold’.
Great tips to point people in the right direction for success on Facebook.
Love it Marcus! Have a great day!

Thanks Susanna,
My Dad worked on gold mines when I was young and you know what they say about being impressionable when young. Prefer the gold we mine though!!

Love the Analogy Marcus,
Don’t you love it when people say something like “I apologize if I’m being to forward, but….” Why the heck are you apologizing?? Do you feel bad about what you’re doing?? Get a little confidence in yourself, and you wouldn’t be apologizing.

I enjoyed your article. It is very much like mining for gold and when a good seam is found, or a good business idea, then it’s amazing how it can grow through the power of networking.

Hey Marcus,
I think a lot of people treat Facebook like it is their own creation and people joined so they could be pitched to on a daily basis. (LOL)
For me, I just take a relaxed approach because I realize most people are on Facebook to “hang out” and connect with their friends and family.
My REAL aim is to give them the opportunity to find out more about me at my blog or Fan Page — then they can opt in to my list there.
Have a great day!

Man that is so true. I saw one of these posts on someone’s wall I was leaving a message on the other night. “I hate to sound forward” why do something you hate pal? I think the funniest thing I saw was a girl rejecting a guys friend requests on his wall. She something to the effect that at first it seemed ok to accept his request but that he had spammed her wall the 1st day so no thanks! But yes definitely relationships first works out better in the long run.

Hi Marcus,
Great analogy … mining for gold! That’s exactly what it is.
Thanks for the tips on how to go about it the right way! A lot of newbies don’t know any better because often they are told by their upline to go on Facebook to recruit.
Make it a great day!

Hey Marcus,
Nice post! It’s true how you can’t just friend anyone.
I find myself deleting people because of all the pay $25 earn xxx and come meet yournight founders.
My strategy is very similar and it has been improving as I start applying what I’ve been learning.
I had a situation like Steve mentioned in his comment. Someone sent me a friend request and I accepted. She was in network marketing.
I usually send out a welcome video and tag my new friends, no selling, no website.
Just a “hi, nice to meet” introduction.
As soon as I tagged her,
*bang*
I get tagged with a “YOUR A SPAMMER” picture and message.
Lol, I said ok, but this is not spam and you connected with me.
There is your proof in the pudding, you have really target and know who are dealing with.
Have a great day!

Hey Marcus
Be SOCIABLE. All the SM sites core purpose is social interaction. Many marketers (failing marketers) assume that SM sites are made just for marketers. Crazy.
When I began to really connect individually with people on a one-to-one level my conversions increased dramatically.
All because I was social, helpful and providing value. They then clicked on my links through all by themselves.

This is a great one to follow. I met those two people that you mentioned. As a matter of fact I was both of them at one point LOL… I saw that it really didn’t work so I had to change my strategy.
I agree with Dwayne. The key is to be sociable. Start a friendship and connect with people on a one to one basis so that the both of you can feel comfortable.
That was a great analogy about the gold diggers. I totally see where you’re coming from. Thanks for this great post!!!

Hi Sherman,
Thanks Sherman. I think sometimes we try too hard to be business people instead of just connecting as friends and seeing if one can help the other in some way.
