Internet home based business chicken or chooka image

Not Your Ordinary Cluck Cluck...

Down under a Chicken is often referred to as a chook. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that no matter where you live, chickens are never as glamorous as the one above.

There are however, many varieties of chickens, and they can appear quite different from each other.

Regardless of their appearance though, it’s always clear that they are what they are: chooks.

This is because they all do the same things; scratch at the ground, eat, sleep and lay eggs. This is simply what chooks do.

Could a chook be more remarkable than it is?

I’m sure if a chook had the capability to focus thought as we can, it could at will, transform itself into a soaring eagle.

But since I have never seen a chook do what an eagle does I have to assume they don’t have this capability yet.

Chooks all do the same things and it seems they have no way of being more remarkable than another.

What is a Chooka?

Also from down under but rather than me explain, please watch the following short video to find out.

Internet home based business Chooka image

Whether you like what he creates or not you have to admit that Chooka Parker is remarkable.

There are ‘Chookas’ all over the world, people who have allowed their remarkableness to manifest.

What are you doing to be a remarkable Internet home based business owner?

Are you being a chook or a Chooka?

In other words you might look a bit different to everybody else but when it comes down to it, are you just doing what everybody else is doing, much the same way chooks do?

I was inspired to write this after reading a post written by Heather Stephens, Purple Cow: Will You Help Me Make Clever Marketer Remarkable, an excellent post in which she shares a great video from Seth Godin.

In the video Seth says that to be noticed one has to be remarkable, so if you were a cow you would want to be purple so that you would stand out from all the other cows.

This got me thinking about what it is one has to do to be a ‘purple cow’ or a Chooka?

The more I thought about it the less I could come up with an answer.

You see what makes people remarkable is that they don’t ‘look’ like anybody else.

They are not doing what everybody else is doing. You can’t look at what someone else is doing to find your own remarkableness because then it’s not yours, just a different shade of someone else’s.

How to be a Chooka

It was when I happened to see some television coverage here about Chooka Parker that the answer to my question came to me.

Did you hear in the video that he spends a lot of his time on his own?

He has no television, radio, computer, Facebook account, mobile phone…

I am not suggesting you give up all your technological support but I am saying that if you want to be remarkable then you may well have to find a way of disengaging from it a lot more than you are currently doing.

I believe that it is in being quiet and spending more time with ourselves that we can allow the greatness which is within each of us to surface.

Who knows what lies within you and you will never know unless you give it the chance to surface.

So are you being a chook or a Chooka?

How do you think you could disengage more from the “noise” and busyness that so easily defines being in business?

Maybe you have a different opinion or something to add about what you believe it takes to be remarkable? If so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Be Happy!

  2. Hey Marcus,
I have tremendous respect for people who are musically gifted. Chooka is a real talent indeed.

I believe that every person in the world has at least one unique ability or talent that separates them from the rest.

Some have not discovered it yet and others don’t utilize it enough.

I can’t say enough about the importance of unplugging and getting grounded back into reality. This is the best way to re-connect with ourselves.

    Hi Justin,

I especially liked your line, “Some have not discovered it yet and others don’t utilize it enough.”

Isn’t that the truth. I think sometimes people don’t already recognize the talent they have because they think it has to be a Chooka-like talent but it can be anything as long as it makes our hearts sing when we do it.

When we unplug we allow the ourselves the opportunity to know all things.

Thanks for adding to the conversation here Justin.

  3. Hi Marcus,

Wow! That video was “flippin’ unreal.” What great talent!

I do feel at times that with all that technology we have available these days we are being “spoon fed” how we have to be, how we have to act and how we have to live and conduct business. No telling what would happen if we turned it all OFF and just listened to our little voice inside. We can’t hear it anymore because of all the noise drowning it out.

    Awesome, awesome post!

I agree with you but of course it’s just not practical for most of us to turn off all the technological stimuli around us.

All we can do is just make a bit more space in all the “noise” to try and hear that voice and even then it becomes a challenge to do this consistently.

Thank you Ilka. I always appreciate your support. :)

  4. Hi Marcus!

This Chooka Parker guy is truly remarkable! His talent is raw and it’s so pure and unadulterated. He doesn’t have to copy or imitate some big star, he’s just being himself. If I were to judge that show, he’d be my hands-down winner because he represents sheer Australian talent without any outside influence.

Which now brings us to the meat of the matter of your topic, which I really appreciate, Marcus! To be a stand-out in the Internet marketing business, one has to be unique. We don’t have to be afraid of who or what we really are because in a sea of conformity, it’ll be our individuality that will really set us apart from the rest.

And with that, we amaze people. :)

Thanks for another great post, Marcus!

I don’t watch much television but I do like to keep an eye on this series because I just love seeing all the amazing talent that exists in so many fields. I find it very inspiring.

Actually Chooka does have some formidable competition this year so he may not win but whether he does or not, he is already a winner and will do well for himself I am sure.

I agree with you that we have to find our own voices in amongst the ocean of conformity Elmar. It’s not always easy to do but we have to know that we have this choice and that until we do we will never be truly happy or successful.

We all have the ability to amaze others not because we need their validation but because we are simply being true to who we are.

Thanks for adding more to “chew on” here in the comments section Elmar.

I love this post. But, I don’t think I’m a “Chook” or a “Chooka.” I’m just “Me”….uniquely me. I’ve been who I am for a very long time. I have never been comfortable following the crowd. I haven’t always been the most popular. But, I have always been uniquely, authentically, and joyfully me. I believe when you learn to embrace your own self worth, you are comfortable being as different as you want to be.

  9. Hey Marcus,

This is a great topic that I’ve honestly struggled with for some time — how to be remarkable and stand out from all the noise in the IM and NM industries.

It’s truly a challenge and, like you said you just can’t copy someone else or you’ll just be branding someone else.

I don’t know that I have an answer to the question of remarkability, but I tend to believe that it comes from within (as you said); thus, the reason for time alone being important!.

Perhaps being remarkable is nothing more simple than being yourself. Each one of us is unique. The key is to go deep within ourselves and pull out our very own uniqueness.

Thanks for stretching our thinking muscles, Marcus!

  11. [...] Marcus Baker brought up the point that one of the biggest barriers to business owners is that they hold onto the employee mindset. What an excellent point because most of us have been an employee at one time or another so we know being a good employee involves a mindset to please the superiors, follow a job description, etc. That mindset is not going to work for an entrepreneur who needs to make decisions that will directly affect his or her income. An employee gets paid the same wage or salary regardless of the output, an entrepreneur will not. [...]

  12. HI Marcus… “flippin heck” is Chooka ever amazing.

You know Marcus, this is something that goes through my head a LOT.

You see, I have lots of friends, family and quite frankly when the kids are not in school, my house is like club med for kids. I have people, parents, family, friends coming, going spending time…

BUT… I love my own time and when I am on my own, I think, work, brainstorm, and try to come up with ideas.

There are times when the bucket seems dry, but then I always think “hmm, yes, we have to be amongst people and learn from them… but whats from stopping US from just being US.

For example, there are many ways we are all trained to market our business, but what’s not to say we could find something that is uniquely ours. Like, step outside the dotted line and do something so completely different that who knows???

Maybe we have within us something so absurd that it brings results.

I firmly believe we can all be purple cows or Chooka’s … we just have to find that one small needle in the haystack.

What a wonderful post Marcus. I loved the title. It really got me curious as I came onto your blog!

I am starting to think that we all spend too much time trying to figure the HOW out but if we rather allow the WHAT to surface, the ‘how” will take care of itself.

Jayne, I am sure Justin Bieber, Chooka…whoever… do not have to worry about how they will find the world. The world just finds them as the Universe takes the lead.

We have to stop trying to do it ourselves and allow our personal universe managers to take over as they know more than we could ever know. It’s about trusting isn’t it?

Here’s to being ‘purple cows’, ‘chookas’ and US!!

Thank you for adding your spark here Jayne! :)

When I have done it, I have been rewarded with insight, creative ideas, encouragement. But more often than not, I have been busy, busy, busy. Too busy!

    Hi Jeanine,

It warms my heart to read your comment as I have to tell you that when it comes to the “wisdom posts” (LOL) I am very much following what I am being led to write about.

Sometimes I try to resist writing about things that come up as my inner critic tries to intervene but I ignore this most of the time.

As I see it, if my posts can make a difference even to one person then it has been worth my while. :)
So I am delighted to hear that this post “spoke to” at least one person… YOU! :)

Jeanine I know that “busy routine” only too well! And I know how it gets in the way of us connecting meaningfully within.

I loved these words from Oprah on her final show,

“Your life is always speaking to you. First in whispers. And a whisper in your life feels like, “mmm, That’s odd…that doesn’t make no sense…or mmm…is that right?”

“The whispers are subtle at first and if you don’t pay attention to the whispers, it gets louder and louder and louder. It’s like getting thumped upside the head. If you don’t pay attention to that, it’s like getting a brick up the side of the head. If you don’t pay attention to that, the whole brick wall falls down. ”

Don’t you just want to say “Yesssssssssss I know so well what this is all about.”

We have to be quiet so that we can hear the whispers because when we don’t, the brick wall falls down and then it can be very very nasty and it’s all our own doing.

Do whatever you can to make the space you deserve Jeanine. Make it a priority as it will serve the rest of what you are doing. You know this of course! :)

  16. Marcus, aloha. Being a huge fan of Seth Godin’s, I long ago embraced the concept of being a Purple Cow. In fact, now that I think about it, I was a Purple Cow (did I just call myself a cow?) long before Seth was born much less coined the term. More on that later.

Marcus, thank you so much for introducing me to Chooka. There is no doubt that he is in alignment because source comes pouring through him and out through his hands. What an amazing talent. In fact, I can hardly wait to finish typing this so I can share your post.

Now, back to your questions. Much as I love your chook at the top of this post, I have always been a Chooka. Hearing the words different, strange, weird and the like has always been a part of my life.

Getting away from the noise is easy for me because I choose silence, with the exception of the sounds of nature outside my window, most of the time. Our television has not been hooked to a cable for almost 2 decades thus only movies can be watched on it. As great a memory as I have, I cannot even remember when I last watched a movie.

Here’s all you have to do to be remarkable:

“Reject your own idiosyncrasies and you’ll be labeled “different.” Embrace what makes you different and you’ll be admired for being special.” Simon Sinek

If each of us would be true to ourselves, we would all be Purple Cows or Chookas!

Inherently, each and everyone of us is unique. It is when we look outside ourselves and ask for others to validate us, that we lose ourselves. That is when our vibrant color fades and spots appear.

As the saying goes, Great Post! Marcus. Thank you so much. Aloha. Janet

I know exactly what you mean with the words, “different, strange and weird” Janet. :) Most times when my parents came back from teacher-parent meetings I would hear how teachers thought I was “odd’.

Thank goodness I would always think. It would have been far worse had they not known who I was which I suspect was the case for a lot of kids. Ha ha.

I know the Simon Sinek quote and love it. That is so true. Most people try to hide their oddities but this is what makes us unique.

We should befriend these, shine a light on them and celebrate them.

Of course you can’t do this if you are afraid of what others will think about you.

Janet we all have Chookas and and purple cows within waiting to get out but the only person who can free them is us!

Well Janet you’ll not be surprised to hear that my closest friends and associates are all Chookas in some way so I already sensed long ago that you are one too! :)
