…but only for ten days.
What am I Giving up?
All the activities and demands that compete with our attention and which push and pull us in so many directions. I’m talking about emails, phones, computers, business, television, ads, sales pitches… I’m giving myself a total break from life which of course includes a break from my network marketing Internet business.
I’ve been going through a personal transformation quite intensely for a few months now. When we understand that this is what our purpose is, to transform and find joy in everything we do, then that which contributes to our living, like businesses become the vehicles of opportunity to move us further along to the realization of who we are and what we are here to do.
Jim Rohn said you need to work more on yourself than your business because he knew that you are only as successful as the person you are prepared to become . Once you take up any challenge including a business, you set in motion your desire to expand and it is your responsibility to step up as you are called to do so.
Next month is my birthday and in line with my own journey I’m giving myself an important gift which I’m taking as of tomorrow – 10 days of exclusive time with me and my thoughts.
I’m off on a 10 day meditation retreat to ‘The Blue Mountains’, two and a half hours West of Sydney.
It’s called Vipassana which means to see things as they really are. It’s one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation, the goal of which is to give one the opportunity to see clearly and to learn how to better manage the busy mind.
This non sectarian technique is taught at ten-day residential courses right around the world, during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. You can read more about this here: Vipassana Meditation
This is no Holiday!
I like to think of it as a kind of ‘bootcamp’ or ‘Survivor’ for the mind so it’s not something to be taken lightly.
Participants do not speak to each other during the ten days nor do they have contact with the outside world at all. No books, mobile phones, writing etc is permitted. One meditates for 10 hours a day.
Why am I Doing This?
To experience a way of self-transformation through self-observation. I want to sharpen my mind skills as they are fundamental to my happiness and my success.
It has been said that prayer is the act of speaking to God and meditation the act of listening to God. The problem is we are always so busy talking and being busy that half the time we don’t even hear when God is talking to us never mind hear what is being said.
So I’m going away to listen to God intensely and I expect to have even greater clarity about myself and my life as a result.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you when I return after 10 days. Until then there will be no blog posts from me but be assured I will be back.
I am well aware that taking ten days out and away from everything is indeed a privilege and a blessing that not everybody can do.
I want you to remember that even though you may not be able to do what I am doing, you can still make working on yourself a daily priority. Surrender to the process, to the journey within you so that you too can see things as they really are and in so doing, end any unnecessary self inflicted suffering.
What do you are currently do to work on yourself every day? Is there anything you’ve been meaning to do which you could start doing right now or tomorrow morning? Your comments are always welcome. I’d also appreciate it if you can share this post with your followers if you believe they will benefit from reading it. Thank you.
My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

Good for you Marcus.
My idea of taking off time is to work intensely on an audit, which is not refreshing at all
See you when you get back.

Hey Marcus,
Sounds like a good time for relaxation and re-centering.
I know I have a tendency to become overly focused and become consumed by my work. Taking breathers can be absolutely life changes as you can get a better understanding and see a clearer path towards where you want to go.
Have fun and unwind.

Thanks so much for your comment. I have only just got around to answering them all now.
It was certainly a time for developing greater clarity and it was also most relaxing to be away form all the usual buzz.

It so important to have an actual “personal” plan and not just a “business” plan. It’s the business that we want to afford us the things we want to do on our personal plan. I think that the personal goals that are set should be much more than just what you want to “make” from your business.

Wow Marcus,
now thats heavy. Your retreat sounds very intense, but yet if your purpose is to be enlightened to self actualization then it should be a breeze. Although it may sound intense, but this sounds really interesting to me since I know I have clutter in my mind. I’m working it on it with all the personal development books and CDs I have, as well as reading blogs like yours. I can’t wait for you to come back to talk about your experience. Take care my friend!!

Hi Marcus,
I’m sure that you’re experiencing a tremendous amount of growth right now.
My girlfriend has attended a 10 day Vipissana Retreat twice and she said it was a beautiful experience.
I’ve made it a habit to pull back throughout the day to observe my thoughts. At set points each day the phone goes off and I drop everything to sit still. Sometimes it’s agitating but I count the feeling as a blessing because it revealed to me another attachment, and attachments are made to be released.
I feel that my growth has accelerated recently and that I am doing less, and God more in my daily activities.
Have a wonderful birthday buddy

Dear Marcus, you are such a beautiful man for sharing so much of yourself with others. What an awesome and I’m sure challenging meditation to commit to. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Two more days till your birthday and I’m sure it was one of the best birthday presents ever in the end. 10 days in the location alone would’ve been a major factor in guiding you towards the magic and giftedness inside you. I feel you would have surely discovered so much. I await your tales. Much friendship and love, Vasi

Marcus, when I first met you, I knew I had met a man with vision and purpose.
One of my favorite quotes is: Energy flows where you’re attention goes. For most people, their attention is all over the place. They are surprised and wonder why their life is not moving in the “right” direction.
I’m excited for you. You are heading in the right direction. And if you don’t know “exactly” where or what that is, don’t worry – it will soon be made clear.
Cheers!
