In my previous post in this series, How to Help Your Network Marketing Associates to Success, I explained why  I believe that if you want a successful network marketing Internet business you have to do more than teach your associates how to market. You have to coach them to success.

This is totally in line with what Noah St John teaches about ‘Loving Mirrors’ and ‘Safe Havens’ in his book, The Secret Code of Success: 7 Hidden Steps to More Wealth and Happiness.

I also pointed out that the Sponsor/ Associate structure in network marketing provides the perfect vehicle for this kind of coaching but it isn’t happening very successfully.

Unfortunately popular opinion amongst many network marketers is one of abdicating responsibility in this regard. Many think it’s totally up to each individual to do their own personal development until they become the person they must to be successful.

However if you could do something more to help your associates be successful wouldn’t you do it? Especially since your success depends on this?

If you answered yes then you want to consider coaching your associates to believe in themselves. However I don’t believe you can do this until you have been coached to success in the same way.

The following process is provided to help you start the process of getting your own success coaching.  It’s based on the steps in The Secret Code of Success: 7 Hidden Steps to More Wealth and Happiness. For more detailed information I suggest you consult Noah St Johns work directly.

  1. Identify the “head trash” standing in the way of your success. Make a list. E.g  I’m not smart enough to be successful.
  2. Share your list with someone you trust. Ask for their opinion from their perspective. If they think you have items on your list that are untrue then consider asking someone for support to help change your self beliefs.
  3. Decide that you need someone else to believe in you.
  4. Identify your “Loving Mirrors” and “Safe Havens”. Ideally this should be your sponsor but if this is not possible, who else could you approach? There are also professional coaches to consider. Make a list of 2-3
  5. What is in it for them?
  6. Write down what actions you are willing to take to get this support.
  7. What form do you want the support to take?
  8. Interview your potential “Loving Mirrors” and “Safe Havens” to be sure you’re choosing the best people to support you. Noah St John provides a great set of interview questions in his book.
  9. Agree on when, where and how this support will take place.
  10. Take action.

Once you are being coached and experiencing the benefits of this coaching yourself then you will be a in much better position to coach your own team.

  1. Hi Marcus,
My biggest enemy was shame. I guess for a long time I didn’t believe in myself. But I am able to break lot of limiting beliefs which were holding me from success. There are 5% of them left but I will use your way to get rid of them.Great Post.

    Hi Lali,

Thank you for sharing your own story here. I am sure most of us have traveled this same journey my friend. It’s one we have to keep on working on until we get better at mastering our minds.

  2. Hi Marcus,

I think #1 and #10 are the most important on the list above.

First we have to identify the “head trash” (love that term) and sharing it with someone else helps us to get rid of it. Other people see us in a different light and may see something in us which we clearly don’t or can’t see.

Having someone else believe in us gives us the feeling of “I CAN” as we don’t want to disappoint that person. We will try harder than if we were just on our own. That’s why having a mentor or coach is so important.

Of course taking action get’s it all going. Without taking action it’s just wishful thinking.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Marcus,

Thanks for the recommendation on the book by Noah St. John.
Do you have any recommendations for the best type of WordPress site. I need one that doesn’t require me to know HTML.

    Thanks.

    Hi Marti,

    Thanks for leaving your comment.

Do you mean which theme to use? A good free theme is Flexibility and in the paid themes I have heard that one of the easiest to use is called Flex. I use Headway which also does not require one to know html.

I would stay away from themes like Thesis, even though it is an awesome theme but it does require one to know some html or else you would need to get someone else to do it for you.

  4. Hi Marcus,

I love your series about Noah’s book. The concept of loving mirrors is simply amazing. When reading this in his book, I realized that I already have one. Now that’s cool, isn’t it ?

With that said, I fully agree with you that we can’t abdicate our responsibility for the personal development of our team members. On the other hand, we can’t force them either. We can’t make people stop smoking, for example.

    Thanks for sharing your insights.

    Take care

    Hi Oliver,

Thanks for your feedback and I’m pleased you are enjoying this series.

Fantastic to hear that you already have a loving mirror. :)

No you are right, we can’t take responsibility for every aspect of our team member’s personal development.

We can however take an active role in supporting them by believing in them before they can do this themselves. If they choose not to receive this support however then is quite another matter though. Nobody like you say can be forced to do anything.

Thanks for adding to the discussion here.

  5. Hi Marcus,

I agree with Ilka, finding out what “head trash” you have is one of the first keys.

It’s impossible to change what we don’t even realize is there.

This has been a powerful series you’ve done. I appreciate all you’ve shared Marcus.

You are right if we don’t clear our head trash nothing else matters much.

  6. Hi Marcus,

The benefits of coaching are enormous, but you’re right, not all (probably not many) network marketing up-line sponsors are great coaches. I know from my own experiences, that it’s hard to coach someone when you’re brand new yourself. I was lucky in that my up-line several generations above me worked with me and my team to help me. The people in between them and me were not great leaders, as they were pretty new themselves.

I LOVE your comment about head trash. We’ve got to get rid of it and replace it with the positive affirmations and positive self talk so we can reach our goals…and eventually have enough belief to sprinkle belief onto others who are newer to the business than we are! :)

    Great, great post, as always!

    Hi Heather,

I always love to read what you have to say in the comments section because you always add more value – thank you.

I do think that sometimes it’s a big ask for new people to know how to coach others so early in the game. If it came that naturally there would not be coaching programs for people to do in order to qualify.

However I don’t think everybody has to become a qualified coach, they just need to learn and implement some of the more important skills and this takes a good role model and a little time.
