If you’re not sure whether you you should start your own network marketing Internet business or you already have one and you’re not enjoying it that much, then it’s time for you to be brutally honest with yourself and make sure that it’s the right place for you to be. I aim to help you do this by the end of this post.
Doing things you don’t want to do can be useful
I have spent a lot of time doing things I didn’t want to do, not because I chose to do things I didn’t want to do, but because at the time I was convinced I did want to do them.
I don’t think there are too many people reading this who would be able to say they have never done something they didn’t want to do. In fact it’s this very contrast that we sometimes must experience to help us know what we do want. When you know what you you don’t want then you also know what you do want, the exact opposite.
What influences the choices you make?
Obviously I could list factors infinitum here but these might include – illusion, intuition, personal recommendation, advertising, the allure of something to be got, society etc
How quickly should you change your mind?
This depends on the person and what is being considered. Not sticking with something long enough after you have made a decision to get involved, is however doing yourself an injustice. You want to be sure that whatever it is, you have given it a fair stab.
This does not mean you have to find every aspect of it, pleasant. Loving something might include also loving those parts of it that are new and unknown and therefore uncomfortable. Changing your mind about something does not necessarily have to do with the specifics of it, but rather comes about after careful consideration of its nature as a whole.
Let me give you an example – If you decided to become a motor mechanic and you loved everything about the nature of being a motor mechanic but there were parts of your job you didn’t like as much as others, this would not be reason enough to give it up. If however you discovered that you really hated working on cars period then the fact that you enjoyed aspects of your job is irrelevant because you don’t resonate with the nature of the job as a whole.
Don’t become attached to what’s not working
On the other hand sticking with something you definitely know is not for you is also harmful. Sometimes we do this because we don’t know what else to do, we get entrapped by financial reward, or simply because it becomes who we are and we find it difficult to let go.
This is a big mistake – it ‘s called ‘selling out’ your soul. Even if you don’t believe it’s having an adverse effect, it is and from personal experience I can tell you that you will have to deal with the consequences at some point. As much as possible, try not to do things you know you don’t want to do. It’s when we love what we do that we find success in whatever way that is defined.
Let’s consider the nature of a network Marketing Internet business
Plain and simply, network marketing is about connecting with people. It’s about assessing whether they have a need for what you have to offer and qualifying them for your time and effort. It also means establishing personal relationships with and being responsible for others to a point.
Not only do you have to like people, but you must find them interesting enough to want to learn how to lead and help different types of people to become successful. This is the nature of network marketing. If you know that you do not resonate with the nature of what network marketing is, then it does not matter how much money you could earn, it’s not for you.
Adding the Internet to the mix commonly means using online marketing as a vehicle to find people with whom you can network. It’s nature is complex and technically inclined. To make things happen you have to understand and know how things work beyond what you can see. It includes learning about the exact and precise disciplines that are associated with Internet marketing. This may include keyword research, copywriting, design, SEO etc.
Either you must be prepared to learn how to do all of this yourself or you need to be able to pay others to do it for you, in much the same way as you would pay a motor mechanic to look after your car.
Put these things together and you have a network marketing Internet business. So the question is do you or can you love what you need to love to make this kind of business work?
If you already have this kind of business, what about it’s nature do you love? I look forward to reading your comments and please share this with your networks if you believe it will be of value to them.
My goal? Helping you achieve yours.

Hi Marcus,
Great points that you have made here.I suppose the question one needs to ask oneself if they have joined a network marketing company and they are not enjoying it, is WHY did they join in the first place.
What was their motivation to do something different?
If the reason was just to “make money”on its own then they are probably not going to get very far.
Often fear comes into play when we do something different, and the way to deal with this is through acquiring knowledge and taking action.

Hi Deirdre,
I think often people are in love with the idea of doing something or they are in love with what it might give them some day but unless you are in love with the process to get to where you want to be, you’ll never get there.
As you say taking action is really what defines those who make it and those who don’t.

Hey Marcus,
Good example.
Yes, I love online marketing, but I sure don’t like some aspects of it! There are some “necessary evils” that I either have to learn to do, or outsource.
I have to say, outsourcing is worth the money. It puts your mind at ease, and frees up your time to do what you enjoy doing.
Have you read The 4 Hour Work Week? Talk about outsourcing! lol
Another wonderful post my friend!

Hi Susanna,
Outsourcing is a great idea especially if you can pass off some of those tasks you don’t enjoy doing.
Yes have read it and wow that would be perfect!
Thanks for adding value here as usual Susanna.

Hi Marcus,
I think it’s a matter of motivation that helps us swallow unpleasant tasks and do them. I’m not a friend of too technical stuff, but I know I need to find solutions in order to enjoy what I like.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Oliver,
Yep nothing is perfect. My mother always made a mean chicken pie when I was a kid but she insisted on including peas which I hated then. However I loved the pies so much that I put up with the peas and even grew to like them eventually. Ha ha…

This is an excellent post Marcus. It will make people as the questions to make sure they are doing what they want to do instead of “selling out” their soul.”
I have to say that I absolutely love Internet marketing. I just hate the tedious parts of it. Thus, outsourcing some of those tedious things make my life more enjoyable, and since I am more focused, it makes my life more productive.
Thank you for another great post Marcus!

Hi Michael,
Great to have you visit again buddy.
Life really is too precious to spend even a minute doing what you don’t love doing. The good thing is that we can outsource those aspects we are not mad about and that is one of the things that makes it such a wonderful business.

Hey Marcus,
Learning online marketing and building a business does take a discipline to learn on how to juggle multiple tasks. Most individuals think that online marketing is all you need to building a business. That is just the beginning! You must learn how to keep the business going and growing.

Hey Josh..
I like that line, “You must learn how to keep the business going and growing.” – so true. I think the biggest problem for a lot of business owners is that they don’t value what they have as a real business. Business is business not a pat time hobby.
Thanks for reminding us all.

Great post as usual. I like the point you made: “Don’t get attached to what’s not working”.
Sometimes we get so comfortable and find it difficult to let go of things that don’t help us in anyway… Human nature!

Marcus,
Great question! I have to say that although I’m new to building an internet network marketing business, I’m loving it all!
I always have had a fascination for understanding more technical things (I do home repairs my husband cooks!) and at the same time, I love the friendships and relationship part of network marketing. For me the marriage of the two is magical, but I see a lot of people who would be great at building an internet network marketing business, shying away from it because of the technical parts.
I wish more people understood that you don’t have to know everything to get started. It will be as hard as you make it, and you’ve got to realize it’s not about the resources it’s about being resourceful that will help you to succeed in any business (online or offline).
Outsourcing is great, and you’ve got to be willing to ask for help. Even today, I had a technical glitch with my blog, and a quick message to my hosting company set me straight and I learned something new.
Always learning…
Great post Marcus!!

Hi Heather,
Seems as if you have an ideal arrangement between yourself and your husband there.
I think the technical aspect does get in the way of a lot of people’s success and I daresay for some it becomes a convenient thing to blame for a lack of success too.
I agree, people make it much harder than it needs to be. Is this once again part of creating obstacles subconsciously? I always encourage people to simplify but it seems most are wired to want to find complexity in order for it to have value.
Learning to ask for help is a great lesson to learn! The learning never stops….
Thanks for your awesome comment.

Wow Marcus, this is a serious post, we could get pages & pages of diatribe on this one! I think most network marketers start their businesses after being lured to the vision of the “mega-bucks” that are to be made.
Then reality sets in & they realize that just like any other genuine & legitimate business, it is going to take hard work, dedication & time to achieve those results you were promised in the presentation by the double diamond upline!
As most humans are lazy by nature, most newcomers will hit the road at that time with their tails between their legs. The genuine ones among us go on to achieve the success they work so hard for…rightly so!
They say experience is a hard teacher – she gives the test first & the lesson afterward. Let’s face it, persistence will gain you experience – isn’t that what LIFE is all about?
Stay Inspired!

Hey Marcus,
The main thing is to love what I call the ‘overview’ of what you are doing even if the intricacies are challenging.
I love so many things about my business:
-I love who I’m becoming in the process. The personal development is nothing short of amazing.
-The concept of helping other people succeed really appealed to me.Demonstrating leadership and showing the way. The icing is that the more I help the more I succeed.
-You just cant beat the income that can be generated when one really applies himself. It’s staggering. Period!
I have a bunch but I guess there are the top three.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Thanks for sharing the helpful, detailed breakdown Marcus. Clear and concise points you have made here.
I like the freedom of my opportunity. The fact that I can build my ventures with a telephone and internet connection still baffles me at times. I am both grateful and excited to wake up each morning.
As for being attached to something which doesn’t work I have been taught this lesson recently. The intuition whispers and it takes a great deal of time and patience to hear its perfect instruction. By listening to the whispers and drowning out the ego’s shouting I was able to get back on course with effective, goal achieving activities.

Nothing comes for free. It takes work and persistence, but if it continues, there is a harvest they can reap.

Hi Marcus,
I think that we all have had times in our Internet Marketing business that there were things that we did or did not like. I have what some call a stubborn side, there are tons of things that I do not know how to do, but I jump right in and learn them. Of course I may spend hours upon hours banging my head against the keyboard, but being stubborn, I know that I am better then a silly program.
Thank you for the great post!

Now this is a post that will make you think. This is one business where half way is not going to work.
It’s ok to occasionally doubt yourself or question what your doing every so often.
But when this becomes to predominate we really should truthfully analyze our why here and see what we come up with.
Me I love the thought of what life will be like when the goal is reached and in the meantime enjoying the process.
