It’s supposedly not cool for guys to like Oprah Winfrey but I do. I have always and will continue to acknowledge and applaud her magnificence. If anybody has been true to her purpose on this earth it’s Oprah.
I think she’s an extraordinary individual who has entertained, inspired and made a difference to people on a scale that for most of us is beyond comprehension.
I’ve often heard her say that when she started she had no idea what was possible. What she did have however was a vision to make a difference in the world and when our vision is coupled with our true purpose then clearly what we can achieve is staggering.
In a video excerpt titled, What Oprah Knows For Sure taken from her recent final show, she shares some profound insights about what she knows has been responsible for her own success.
She suggests it’s what we all must know to be successful so do you personally know what Oprah knows?
How are you measuring up as a blogger, network marketing Internet business owner, affiliate marketer or whatever it is you do or who you are?
- We are all called. Our real job in life is to figure that out and get to the business of doing it. Do you know if what you are doing is your true calling? How?
- When you are doing exactly what you are meant to be doing, a calling lights you up to let you know. Do you feel yourself being lit up despite setbacks and obstacles?
- A calling will spark the light in you so that you can illuminate the world for others. Are you lighting up the world for others?
- You don’t need to be an international talk-show host. You each have a platform. It’s exactly where you are with your own reach whether small or large. This is where your power lies. Do you realize that wherever you are now is where your power lies? You don’t need to be a “guru” or to get anywhere other than being where you are NOW.
- Every day show people who you really are. Let your life speak for you. Do you feel free to be authentically you or are you promoting a projection of yourself?
- When you do this you will receive in direct proportion to how you give on whatever platform. You don’t need to be famous. Your life is to serve the world. If you’re not receiving as you would like, could it be that you have not yet acknowledged that you have value to give and must give it first?
Do you know what Oprah knows? How?
Do you agree/ disagree?
Please leave your thoughts in the comments section and I’ll meet you there. I’d love you to share this post with your followers because they might like to join in the discussion too. Thank you.
Be Happy!

Hi Marcus!
Oprah Winfrey is really an icon for all people, not exclusively for the females. I also see her as someone worth emulating so it’s perfectly OK for a man to acknowledge such a powerful woman and her effect in the lives of millions all over the world.
And, with that said, I just want to say that I like how you’ve taken Oprah’s vision to be a good model for all of us in the Internet marketing world to be following.
It’s true, when we first started out, we probably just had an inkling of what we’re supposed to do but in the end, if we just embrace the possibilities that were thrown our way, we could eventually reach greater heights and be a light to others!
Remember the guest post I did in Ilka’s site re: tapping the MLM hero in us? That’s pretty much the same feeling that I really share with Oprah: if there’s a calling, we heed to it.
I say we are man enough to acknowledge powerful women.
Have a great weekend!

Hi Jack,
Over the years I have seen many physical sides to Oprah.
What has always amazed me is how real she has always been about her battle with weight. It’s this kind of authenticity that draws people to her.
Appreciate your comment.

Marcus, I’m so glad you wrote about Oprah! I missed most of the final shows except the very last one but I loved that one. It’s good to be reminded of it.
I think that my broad purpose is to help people become more of who they really are. Becoming more authentic.
But I have expressed that purpose in many different ways. And I think it’s important to connect to the ultimate purpose but realize that there are ways to live that out in every area of your current life and in new ways you haven’t even begun to explore.

Hi Jeanine,
Knowing you and what you stand for through your blog I would definitely agree that your purpose is helping others to become who they are and you do a wonderful job at doing this too.
I really like your point about about being open to expansion when it comes to living out one’s purpose.
As Oprah herself says, some of us are fortunate enough to get paid for doing so but there is plenty of purposeful living to do that is rewarded in many ways other than financial.
I am excited at the thought that we all have many new ways to live out our purpose which as yet are unknown. How exciting Jeanine!!
Thank you for leaving such an awesome comment.

Hi Marcus,
I’ve always admired Oprah. She’s an icon whom many people both men and women look up to. A very wise woman.
Couldn’t watch the clip keeping my eyes dry. But that’s just me.
I think I’ve gotten away a little bit from my true calling, but I am on my way back there. (At least I think it’s my true calling. Can it be that sometimes we die before we find that out?)

Hi Ilka,
As I said in my reply to Jayne, I am a softy too but I think it’s a good thing. To me is means we are remembering that we are all connected and one together.
I think some people are able to find their true calling more easily than others and stick with it but this is also all our individual journeys which are meant to be as they are.
I do think some people may die before knowing what their true calling is and then maybe some realize once they have passed that they were doing exactly what they were meant to be doing anyway.
It is a journey and as long as we are listening we will hear that call and know what it is. Sometimes we may get distracted, I know I have , but once one starts the journey I don’t believe you can ignore it forever.
Thank you so much for your response here Ilka. Have a great new week.

I must say that I’ve never followed Oprah and have to take anyone’s word about what she’s all about. But I agree with your concepts, as you relate them to her. A person must have a purpose and a direction and stick with it. Otherwise, they would be like a ship without a rudder. Have a great weekend!

I remember before I started my blog I received an inspirational quote in my email. It said something along the lines of not needing to be a guru in order to teach others. It really stuck with me and I started my blog shortly thereafter.
We all have something to contribute in this world regardless of how many people that we reach.

Oh my goodness Marcus. What a wonderful post. First of all I’d like to tell you I think it is very cool to like Oprah, man, woman, adult, child. I love her.
I watched the clip, and the one following where she said her closing statement.
Because I am as soft as a boiled turnip, I’m crying like a baby. I don’t know which had the most impact, just hearing her words about our personal power, or just being grateful for everything and everyone we have.
I feel I know what I am meant to do, Im just not doing it well enough. It pains me. I just have to keep digging to make ‘it’ happen.
As you know Marcus, it has to do with growing ourselves, discipline, strength and tenacity.
Every day Marcus, I get up and work towards what I want to be. I am hoping that as she says that it will eventually show in equal proportions.
Thanks for this uplifting yet emotional post. I’d better go and put my face on now!

Hi Jayne,
As soft as a boiled turnip? Loved that Jayne, talk about picturesque speech!
I have to say that I am a softy too but I have learned over time that this is a good thing. When we feel intensely with others it is because we are acknowledging our oneness and what we know to be true too.
I also watched both of the clips, not once but a few times and was choked every time. I could just feel my heart pulsing so strongly.
What I do know Jayne is that we are exactly where we are meant to be at any time even though we may not like it and find it frustrating.
It’s in accepting where we are that we can release more resistance and move forward but sometimes we are so stubborn, aren’t we?… thinking that we know what’s best.
I have no doubt Jayne that everything you are experiencing now is to prepare you for what is still to come.
You are exactly where you need to be. All will be revealed as and when the divine knows you are ready and every day you are getting closer!!
Thank you for sharing so openly here Jayne. I appreciate your response.

Hey Marcus!
While I’m not a huge Oprah fan, I do respect what she’s done to impact the world. And the questions you ask regarding her final show are interesting.
Have I found my calling? I will submit that your calling can change during your lifetime. At one point, my calling was to use my knowledge and expertise to change people’s lives by helping them create life’s biggest miracle — a new life.
And as I grow older and my technical skills start to slow down (as happens with age), I have transformed myself and want to show others how they can do the same. Perhaps this is my new calling.
Thanks for the thought provoking piece, Marcus!

Hi Bob,
I appreciate your reply here Bob and I am pleased that my post made you think about how your calling has changed.
I do think our calling can can change but it’s usually as in your case too, just the context that changes. You are still helping people to be more even though it’s quite different.
As we grow and become more ourselves so then we need different platforms to be able to teach others.
I feel sure that what you have done before was all to prepare you for where you are now and for what is still to come. How exciting!

Marcus, aloha. Ever since my brief comment to you the other night, I have been thinking about this post. Marcus, I truly hope Oprah’s clip and the magnificence of your message inspire others to come into their own.
As Oprah says, too often people are “confused” about fame and what success is.
To me, Marcus, success is living life on your terms, as you consciously design your life and taking full responsibility for what happens in your life.
Marcus, from a young age, I always believed that my purpose is to enjoy life. A very simple belief that has brought me great joy, wonderful experiences and phenomenal people.
As I grew older, I realized that by living my life as I do, I serve the world by being an example to others that you can be or do or have anything you want. You do not have to fit the “norm” nor be traditional. More than one friend has told me that I “reinvent” myself every 7 years or so and that they can hardly wait to see what I am next.
Marcus. I do something as long as it “feels good” to me and serves me. When it no longer does, I move on to something new. From a business perspective, that move has always been into a different field entirely because I love learning new things. (As it happens, Diana has an interview with me on her site today where I give more details.)
Let me give you a few examples of my evolution because Joseph Campbell’s advice of “follow your bliss” resonates strongly within me.
When I was 13 I visited Hawaii with some family friends. At the time, I told my friend’s mother “when I grow up, this is where I am going to live, this is my home.”
Marcus, I knew it, felt it, never questioned it and have lived in Hawaii for over 4 decades.
My career as a fund raising consultant began after years of working as a volunteer for various charities. At a wrap up meeting, I told them that in the future what I had been doing for free, I would now be charging for as it was my new business.
Marcus, I loved what I did for the charities and knew I could help them to a greater extent than I already was. However, I knew they would not value the advice as much if they did not pay for it.
Ironically, I found the network marketing industry when I was helping the non-profits. Though I did not know what network marketing was some 20 years ago, I did know that I had to find or to create a vehicle that would give my clients money month after month. Though I didn’t know the term, I wanted them to have residual income.
While investigating network marketing for my clients, I realized that it is a perfect business for me because (1) I could choose when I was going to work or not work; time freedom, (2) I could choose my business partners and (3) I could choose how much money I wanted to make.
My aromatherapy business followed much the same path. Having long enjoyed creating products for my own personal use and to help friends who had ailments, I was “unhappy” when things like Glade air freshener were touted as aromatherapy.
More than one friend heard me lament about what was being called aromatherapy because several told me “if you do not think there are good products out there, either make your own and put them out or be quiet about it.” Good friends tell you the truth.
Marcus, my purpose is to enjoy my life and my passion is to help others. Quite honestly, being able to help others in whatever way literally makes my heart sing.
Oprah, is correct, Marcus. We are put here for a purpose. It is time for people to decide what their purpose is and to take action.
Marcus, thank you so much for this incredible post. Quite honestly, I could feel the “juices” that must have flowed through you as your wrote it. Thank you for the connection.
Best wishes to you, my friend, for an incredible week. Until next time, aloha. Janet

Janet, aloha. I so appreciate your beautiful response here. Thank you.
Not only was it wonderful to learn more about you Janet but to also “feel” your passion in everything you convey.
I have absolutely no doubt that you are being true to your passion Janet and what wonderful vehicles you have found at the exact right time to move you forward to realize yourself more fully.
I will definitely go and read or listen to Diana’s interview with you Janet!
What I appreciate so much about your comment here is the message that we can all live life on our own terms when we take responsibility for doing so. This is exactly what Oprah is saying too.
Like you I do believe that our purpose is to realize our potential which we then use to serve others. As you have so eloquently explained, when we do this, we can also have the financial abundance that we all desire too.
I do not come across many people who I feel are totally in alignment with what that are meant to be doing here Janet but you are one such person and as much an inspiration to me as Oprah.
I have known from a young age that I came here to make a difference to others and like you I have used various vehicles to do this.
When I have felt it was time to move on and grow some more then I have followed that impulse. These times of growth have not always been easy but when you go forward in faith, you know that you are where your supposed to be and I know this to be true for me at all times.
Let’s hope that many more people will listen for their calling and have the courage to accept the challenge.
Eckart Tolle says we must stop trying to figure out what it is we are meant to be doing and rather ask what does life/God/the Universe want me to be doing and then listen very carefully as we will always be answered.
Thank you again for your amazing reply here. Of course I knew it was a post that would make your heart sing Janet and I am very grateful for our connection.
Have a fantastic new week!

Marcus, aloha. Your blog post in response to my comment, filled me with joy. Marcus, it is easy to recognize that you are true to yourself and follow your path. While there may be some twists and turns, you follow the light of knowing.
Marcus, I have long said that one of the greatest benefits of network marketing is the wonderful people you meet along the way. Some of those people become forever friends while others enrich your life for the time they are in it. No matter the length of time, the richness of the experience and the relationship would not be there without the network marketing connection.
Imagine, Marcus, my surprise and delight when I discovered the very same thing n the blogosphere. Were it not for blogging, it is likely I would not have discovered you. Marcus, I treasure our friendship. You have enriched my life tremendously.
Best wishes for a week of all superlatives. Warmest aloha, Janet
P.S. Marcus, when you think about it, don’t you think it is really easier to “listen for their calling and have the courage to accept the challenge” rather than fight against it?

Janet aloha.
What I definitely know (with respect to Oprah) is that unless we do indeed follow our calling despite our fears, we will never be happy.
It is what we search for in so many other places until we finally realise that what we wanted is within us and that all we have to do is claim our power.
Thank you so much for your inspiring words Janet. I feel exactly the same way as you do about our connection.
What is so wonderful about blogging is that we can connect with people who as you say we might otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so. What a blessing!

Hi Marcus,
interesting question. Knowing something is one thing, acting on what we know another. Whatever Oprah knows, she definitely acted upon it and followed through. Only applied knowledge is power.
That’s why I appreciate you pointing us towards applying our knowledge of ourselves with these brilliant questions. Aren’t we all talkmasters with our blogs because we’ve got our platform, as you note ? So very true…
I agree that we should ask ourselves if we give before we intend to receive. However, I had to acknowledge first what I already give today because no matter how much I gave and how great the feedback was, it was never good enough – for me.
Thanks for bringing that up.
Take care

Too right Oliver. It has to go beyond just having the knowledge.
Interesting point about your having to acknowledge what you were giving first.
Clearly if we don’t value what we give we probably don’t see it. It becomes invisible and so we can never know that we are enough.
I appreciate you adding more value here. Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback re this topic. I think you make an excellent point Stacy and that is one can’t spend one’s time to waiting for a calling, we have to give attention fully to what we’re doing now. This is what leads us to where we are meant to be anyway.

Marcus, aloha. Was reading an e-mail that had a great quote in it that is so perfect for this post.
Myles Munroe writes in his book “The Principles and Power of Vision.”
“Sight is the function of the eyes, vision is a function of the heart….Vision sets you free from the limitations of what the eyes can see and allows you to enter into the liberty of what the heart can feel. Never let your eyes determine what your heart believes.”
isn’t that fantastic? Knew I had to share it with you right away. Aoha. Janet

Marcus, I’m back over here at your blog because of Janet Callaway’s blog post. Her post reminded me that I should check-in more often.
I agree that everyone has a calling. I don’t know, however, if everyone is called to be a blog rockstar [laughing]. But that does not diminish the beauty, truth and goodness of the calling.
I doubt that anyone of us completely understands our true calling with clarity, certainty and authority. In fact, there are false callings as well which *seem* to be just as rewarding as a true calling.
However, we can evaluate the trueness of our path by simple, clear tests. And it doesn’t have much to do with how easy or difficult things are going for us, how much liquidity we got going on, or how many followers and fans we have today.

Awesome to have you back here and thank you for sharing your insights which got me thinking again.
I think the mistake we often make in trying to identify a calling is that we think it has to be something huge and include an audience to feed us with attention, when in fact this is just the ego wanting to have a party.
It’s more likely that no job, business or ‘role’ is going to be that calling but rather how we make a difference to others in whatever context we operate.
Janet and Oprah would make a difference to others no matter where they were or what they were doing.

I’m a male and why on earth shouldn’t I like or possibly love a lady who has added much more value, love and impact to the society at large?
I beg to recap, I like and love Oprah Winfrey for being Oprah Winfrey.

This is great advice. I especially resonated with the advice that asks, “are you being you, or promoting a product or project?”
It’s of course, important to do those things, but it’s vital to truly be ourselves. When that is in alignment, all this other stuff flows.

Hi Steve,
Welcome. Great to have you visit.
Being ourselves is so crucial and yet I think it is probably not as easy to do as we think.
I know for myself I had to discard many layers of projection which I had accumulated over my life time.
The best way to go about this is to stop being concerned about what anybody else thinks about us as then we are free to just be.
Appreciate your comment.

People around the world will always remember Oprah for her works and for all the good words of advice she has offered. It was really sad to see the show queen retire from her regular shows. She has been exemplary and there are not too many celebrities like her. Thanks for sharing about this charismatic woman with your readers, Marcus.

Hi Darin,
Yeah Oprah is one of a kind I think. I am sure she’ll be back bigger and better in some way. She’s the kind of person that never just disappears completely.
Pleased you enjoyed it Darin and thanks for your comment.
